Cubase SX3 drives me nuts

People knowing me will also know that I'm the last person to defend Cubase at all - but seriously, I have close to no problem at all with SX 3.01 (other than the countless ergonomic issues, but that's a completely different matter).
I am right now doing all sorts of workshops at the local conservatory, with people knowing close to nothing about computers, yet they are working alone on the SX 3 workstations I am maintaining, happily composing songs all day long without a single crash or reboot.
Really, as far as I could be happy with SX at all, this for me is the best version I've tried until now, with relative snapping and direct access to a VSTis audio channel settings from inspector being more or less godsends.

NO, MEANS NO. AND REMEMBER, TELL AN ADULT IF SOMEONE TOUCHES YOU IN A "BAD" WAY OR MAKES YOU FEEL DIRTY!!!
That was a great response. but on the subject- I think that all software vendors should concentrate more on stability than feature sets- its nice to have software that just "works" and at the end of the day, do you really need User-definable Workspaces (window layouts) help organizing your desktop. Create and save a separate workspace for each step of the production process. Switch Workspaces on the fly, as if working on multiple computers or monitors?
no you need a solid multitracker....

besides that, patrick is a well known member of KvR for some time, nice musician and nice dude![]()
..so be carful, who you call a troll!
Alabamian: yes, I did post the same message at other sites. So what? If it sends the message to Steinberg that all is not well in SX land, great!
Maybe you didn't take the time to read the fact that Cubase has been my sequencer of choice for 15 years?
Describe the symptoms? How about BSOD, freeze up, spikes...etc The instances are so many, I stopped counting.
And yet, when I go back to 2.2, the system rarely bugs down.
My specs: Tyan mobo dual Athlon 1900+, 2.5 gigs of ram, Motu 2408Mk3, I use Quicktime a lot for video monitoring, FX Teleport networking with 2 other Asus P4C800-E Deluxe.
The reason why I didn't post these last night is that I was at the end of a long day, had lost at least one hour of work due to spikes during mixdown and lost patience with Cubase.
A friend of mine sent me a note reminding me that we ARE the beta testers for Cubase SX 3.
I had forgotten about this for a second.
Now it all makes sense...
PS: I really do not wish to switch DAW. I would love for SX 3 to be stable, that's all.

SX3 IS pretty stable for most people. One look at your setup tells me its the pcs that are the issue not Cubase. Motu are known to be problematic on some setups plus you have 2.5Gb ram. Thats an odd value, I presume you have consulted the Microsoft/Steinberg websites for the tweaks to XP for 2GB. It sounds like you have a hardware problem (BSODs are normally hardware or driver issues) and could even be the PSU.

I never have forgotten that fact. It still amazes me how many users rush out to get the latest version just because it's there. It makes perfect sense to me to leave well alone until there is a stable version of an upgrade available...and that applies to every host - it's not just Cubase. Too many people forget that at least with Steinberg, you have a forum available, lists of known issues/bugs, lists of issues that are being worked on, and generally an idea of what issues will be fixed in the next update.A friend of mine sent me a note reminding me that we ARE the beta testers for Cubase SX 3.
I had forgotten about this for a second.
Actually that's pretty good service in my books....I would much rather have Steinberg own up to bugs, features omitted etc and know about them.
It's a very prevalent attitude to Steinberg to slag them off. Many other companies simply let you find out about the bugs and feature lacks yourself. Because they don't advertise a bug-list doesn't in any way mean they aren't there.
Steinberg get a raw deal from too many IMO.
When you read the Cubase forums - it's patently obvious from a minimum of 75% or more of the "bugs" and feature list problems are down solely to user setup error or simply not reading the manual.
Not that there aren't bugs - of course there are.
Which is why I have never had problems with Cubase like you read about...I buy a version that is known through experience to be stable. VST5.1 worked fine for me for several years...no need to buy SX1. Then SX turns out to be decent so I buy it, and guess what? It works. Just like when SX4 comes out - if you rush straight out and buy the first version, you bet you'll have some teething problems - be sensible and buy it when it works well. If the gullible didn't all rush out and buy the first version, Steinberg would be forced to release a fully working upgrade the next time to attract the sales, wouldn't they?
No, Cubase is not the worst host by a long long way. If it was so f**king awful, why do we all buy it?

I dont think that the amount of ram has anything to do with stability unless its bad ram. Further it doesnt appear that he has any problems with Cubase 2 on the same Pc...

As far as I know Cubase 2 isnt able to access the extra ram. Steinberg enabled it in later versions. A simple solution for BSOD - make a note of the exact error message and google it. The Ms web site will tell you what the cause is.

Its very good, most people who have issues take them here:
http://forum.cubase.net/phpbb2/
Steinberg only respond to people who supply detailed system specs as the PC or setup is often the cause of issues.

I installed 2.5 gigs of RAM without consulting any sites or documenting myself.
Do you know where I can find the Steinberg post about that issue?
Thanks

All this stuff about "I put it back on the shelf" is major Bullshit.
Anyone who does this for a living and ditches a known stable version of anything for a new version "on the fly" is crazy.
SX-2 and SX-3 can be on the same computer at the same time without a problem. You should be WORKING in 2 and TESTING in 3 until you know it works. You should use that concept with EVERY application if you are charging people money for your work.
Blaming the Borgz for the millions of Mobo, Audio Card, Video Card, Memory Module, Chipset etc.. combinations is also beyond ignorant.

This topic starts with 3Gb then talks about 2GB. It seems some plugins dont like anything above 2GB. Its also worth checking your motherboard manual to see if it properley supports 2.5GB.
