I second this. It seems like the technology behind this isn't real complicated, yet plugins are expensive for it. I can't believe there's no free version?

Audacity comes with a noise reduction inside (profiling included) and is free.

you can try green gate also, a nice noise gate (but no noise reduction), or floorfish, a good expander, all freeware.
