Rippling Effect?

What kind of effect will bring about a "rippling" effect - say, I want to feed audio through an effect and have it "ripple" or "shimmer" - would it be a tap-delay? some sort of reverb? modulation? Any specific recommendations (i.e. Ohm Force)? I've been experimenting with all the above but haven't found quite what I'm looking for - difficult to describe in words maybe - but if you have any ideas, I thank you in advance!!

To me, "rippling" means hearing something repeating (as ripples do on a lake), but not a static repeat (some time-based motion).

Both the "bounce" and "microspread <->" features in Lucifer VST are a bit rippling to me... check this video (where I start mousing the knobs) and you'll see what I mean..

Hi there,

Also give the Convoluter plug-in that part of the AnarchyEffects bundle a demo. You can get a good watery rippling effect with it.

I also think of a very deep fast chorus effect as sounding like a ripple (or at least I think just under water). Could give that a try.
I'm sorry this post wasn't about techno.

THanks all! Great ideas! I have Anarchy Effects in my bag of tricks...have never used the COnvoluter though...Also will check out Lucifer. Damn - and y'know- I very rarely reach for a Chorus...I will check that out as well. Thanks!

For a gentle "shimmer", I would first try a chorus effect, possibly along with some creative EQ.

take care,
McLilith

The best way to achieve the ripple effect is to lie DOnkey Tugger down naked and slap his stomach...

Hypnotic ever-decreasing circles will send you into a whirl of rythmic tarnce....

Hmm... to me a "ripple" effect is a tremolo drenched in effects. :P

A top quality sound designer is someone who twiddles knobs on a freeware synth....

Well, i take no offense as obviously you're either blind, deaf, or just dumb. Once again, you've neglected to say anything useful to anyone here...And, before you belittle my work, i notice that you have none of your own....i'm dying to hear the genius sounds of oxo.

Bram's (smartelectronix) Bouncing Ball delay can do that sort of thing on sustained sounds. Try Mutagene's 2Warp Delay also.

Hey thanks D_ek...will check 'em out...they sound very itneresting.

As to the Donkey Tugger effect...erm...does it scream like a bastard?

KTgranulator does a nice, if rather heavy sounding, shimmering effect. Start with the MM-Octaves preset as a guide and tone it down to taste. Maybe drop the feedback a little, shorten the grain length and increase grain density. Making the max delay a lot shorter may help too.

The idea is that you have your original signal with a tuned wash of high frequencies 'shimmering' over the top. I probably use synaesthesia-speak too much, but 'shimmering' is definitely the word which pops into my mind when using that little trick.
