Is the UAD plugs really THAT much better?

There are some funny opinions in this thread. Whenever someone says something like "Pro Tools is shit", to me, they are immediately admitting that they know absolutely f**k all about Audio Technology...
i mean, for f**ks sake. If Audiomulch/FL/Reason/Traction/Screamtracker/whatever is the program that suits the way you work and sounds good to you, great, use the f**king thing. But there's no way you can call Pro-Tools "shit".
and as for saying "yeah, in experienced hands crap gear can make great songs, and inexperienced hands can use great gear and make songs that sound crap", whatever! Get an experienced engineer to use a good setup and a crap setup, and what do you think is going to sound better?
and as for "A carpenter never blames his tools", bullfuckingshit he doesn't. And to prove this theory, next time a carpeneter comes to your house, steal his tools and give him a stick of bubble gum and a bucket. Then see what a good job he does.
*sigh*.
Good Hardware sounds better than Good Software. Fact. And if you disagree, fine =).
I'm quite happy to spend every last cent i own on hardware, and if you're happy to rely on freeware hosts and synthedit plug-ins, great. Each to their own. It doesn't really matter in the end, because as someone pointed out, good music is only ever going to subjective- not everyone is going to need to use avalons, manlys and pro tools to produce the sound they want. Other people are. Deal With it.
PS: UAD plugs sound brilliant.

I never claimed any difference. I maintain that good analog eq is still superior to the very best digital eq given the same knowledgable person using either.Kingston wrote: That's a pretty good subjective summary of a group of people who actually use it. Totally agree with this statement. The envious or jealous usually keep spitting that statement..hoffy wrote:and as for saying "yeah, in experienced hands crap gear can make great songs, and inexperienced hands can use great gear and make songs that sound crap", whatever! A great f1 driver is very important but put Schumi in a Minardi and see if he wins. I think not. Of course if you put Heidfeld in a ferrari and he still can't do shit and he blames the car.. THEN the statement is valid.
The list of extreme high quality native platform software plugins is still quite small IMHO. Some of you might remeber my posts last year when I first tried the sonalksis compressor and voxengo elephant and gliss EQ. I shouted out loud ".. we're finally getting there!! ", meaning, we're finally approaching truly high quality tools. We are definately at the border of "digital will rule all" which I think it will if we give it another 10 or 20 years.
Cheers!

also I find it humorous that some posters ranting about what a piece of shit PT is, follow with posts about "not blaming the tools".

Strangely enough, no. Maybe you need a more visible sig?bmanic wrote:Some of you might remeber my posts last year when I first tried the sonalksis compressor and voxengo elephant and gliss EQ. I shouted out loud ".. we're finally getting there!! "

You keep tweaking your statements all the time. If you plan to argue, at least choose a turf to firmly stand on. It's hard to actually keep track of what your opinion is. They seem to sway like bush in the wind by well versed posts of others and when you realise you're an ass.SJ_Digriz wrote:I never claimed any difference. Am I the only one who doesn't give a f**k and keep to native stuff!
not saying that I wouldn't want a UAD or PoCo or a $50,000 SSL channel strip....but who bloody cares....if you're happy then...

No your not the only one, I'm perfectly happy with Voxengo,Sonalksis and Waves (and am looking forward to the Hydratone EQ). There is no way that I would add an Uad-1 to my perfectly stable system, I know some Uad-1 systems are running fine but it isn't the case for ever one, so why fix it if it isn't broken. I'd sooner go out and get myself a nice pre amp or mic at least they will not be in a box with all my other computer junk in a year or two.fractalism wrote:Am I the only one who doesn't give a f**k and keep to native stuff!

No, my statements have not changed..you drag other unrelated information into the equation which I then respond to.Kingston wrote: You keep tweaking your statements all the time. I HAVE TAKEN THIS STAND FROM THE VERY BEGGINING, HARDWARE EQ > VST EQ

You know its interesting that all I have done is defend my position that the best VST implementations still have a ways to go to match their hardware conterparts. That makes me an ass? Feel free to call me an ass, just don't use it as a qualifier to the facts at hand. There are plenty of asses that are right.Kingston wrote:when you realise you're an ass.
