Just wondering how they compare. I own Live and it's simple, but you don't always get the best sound quality. I like that Orion has a Recycle-like approach, but how usable is it?

Are your loops percussive or ambient?

I don't know. Why? Because loading a loop into a DrumRack and looping it at any tempo is a total no-brainer and sounds great, so why would I bother looking for a better solution?

Looping in the drumrack = pitchshifting.
The Grooveslicer in the Orion sampler is quite good though, and is the only alternative in Orion if you want to preserve pitch/key. I guess it has limited potential for non percussive instruments/tones.

Unlike Live, Orion doesn't timestretch.

well if its a drum loop in orion it goes "BOOM TSK TSK BOOM TS TSK" in live i get "BOOM TSK TSK BOOM TSk TS"
i think its the onboard compressors tho that give the difference

Ive never heard any convincing timestretching, they all sound bizzare, very synthetic. Thats the trouble with using loops.

the whole point about Live is the warp markers, if all you want to do is recycle a beat and have it play all of the slice options seem better than good enough for that but I like to create my own unique swing/feeling and other unique characteristics in live that
can only be done with warp markers, about the only thing live does need though is a simple beat slicer for the times where that's all you want to do to a loop

The Tacklebox guys came up with a way to do it with Impulse, but I don't know how well it works. And I don't know how easy it is to do yourself. I imagine it couldn't be too hard to implement for Ableton.

Use a pitchshifter to pitch it back up/down then:)

Actually, the FL Slicer employs some very impressive timestretching.
