When I watched him as a kid he was just some bore that my dad laughed at. When I rediscovered him as an adult I was shocked at how angry, political and straight out funny he was.

Only the stand-up though. The sketches where shite.

I thought he was great as a stand up artist too (the sketches were sort of tacked on really). The definition of "dry".

Hadn't heard of him in years, but in the 80s he was angrier, funnier, more observant and more humane than all the so called alternative comics put together.

Our local public television station in San Francisco had Dave Allen At Large on on Saturday nights before Dr. Who. As dopey as they were sometimes, I did like the sketches. Anyone know if his stuff is available on region 1 DVD anywhere?

Ahhh buggers!

I really thought he was one of the best! A chair, a glass of water, and just tells jokes to the audience. But what jokes, and what delivery!

He's earned his spot in hell, with all the vicars and nuns he made fun of as well. Keep warm Dave!
