WinCE doesn't support MIDI drivers.realmarco wrote:.. or stick a pda on the ez-eg and run the scripts from the guitar
But there are other solutions that uses the serial port, this is one http://www.dankadata.com/ddd001.html
But this would require some extra developement, and I'm not sure how the pda would handle the MIDI flow.
And even less sure if it could load my 1.2GB+ VST rack.
Yes, this is a very nice feature. This should also let you play 'half' muted string while strumming or picking.Shane Sanders wrote:I feel lucky in this regard because the miniZ sends velocity data from the fret-buttons already whereas the EZ does not.
What would be nice too, is vertical up/down movement detection on any fret button.
Using an external controller is great, but it is always global to all strings/frets.
But this would also change the price range, and you don't get very rich writing crapy scripts
You still need a board that needs to get input from the fretboard (72 inputs !!) + the buttons and the string velocities. Then put all this together and start the coding.Shane Sanders wrote:... a possible source for an inexpensive new "brain" for the EZ

Hi! I just wanted to say thank you very, very much for your script marc! i got my ez-ag ten days ago and was a little dissappointed until i found this forum and your application. i tried working my way through max/msp last semester and i didn´t get far... so i´m absolutely impressed how you managed to write all this and even update it that fast.
it´s just amazing what i can do now using for example ableton live. unfortunately i couldn´t get marklefords script running, but i´m happy anyway.

I see you are from Germany, and I don't know if this is a french version problem only, but some settings (checkboxes) don't save and there is a problem with file dialog boxes.
But it should be fixed in the next version.
Markleford's app should work too. Make sure to set the right ports (you can edit the 'ezPreset.js' file to make it fixed and use the Sound Select and the +/- buttons to change presets.

I just got off the phone with Harvey at Starr Labs. Apparently the new Z7 ztar is only going to cost $1000. Good news, eh?
Here's that model again:

For those that don't know, the ztars are very elastic in terms of configuration. Each of those pads you see can be assigned to output just about any type of MIDI data. So, while this model doesn't have string triggers, you can set it up so that one or two of the pads sends note-on data. Then you can finger a chord and tap out the rhythm of that chord with full control over the velocity level. It ends up sounding more piano-like in execution, but that's not a bad thing by any means.

That's awesome! At least I know there is a relatively sane upgrade path to a more pro instrument.

Marc & Markleford --
I haven't been able to get the scripts to work properly at all. I'm using Win2000, FLS, MidiYoke/MidiOx. I've selected midiyoke 8 as my ouput for split 1 and my input in FLS, and yes I have used the register utility and I always click on the screen when I make a change.
In Ez_Ag 3.08 I can get the frets to light (which is very useful on its own), but I can't get any of the sysex effects for the frets/buttons -- FLS simply seems to be receiveing whatever the ez-eg sends (in both local-on and local-off modes).
Markleford's script isn't doing anything at all...
any ideas?

Note: In 3.08, it's not necessary to click on the doc after using a checkbox (or any control) except for text boxes (timeout).SecondSkin wrote:I haven't been able to get the scripts to work properly at all. FLS set up:
In the ez app, I set EZ-AG/EG (MIDI IN) to my ez in port (standard hardware port)
Then left split (midi out) to Midi Yoke NT 8
In FL Studio (5.02 producer edition):
Option | Midi -> Remote Control Input Yoke NT 8
Ok
Then I insert a synth (ex fl-keys)
Make sure it is selected (green vertical 'led' placed rigth of the synth/channel name button and should be on).
Seems just fine, changing the settings in the ez app is ok.
If I set the left split (midi out) to another port or to <none> , I don't get anything in FLS, this means that I don't get the original ez input, which is what I want.
Just thinking about it, you need directx8 at least, but I don't think this is the problem.
Make sure you have vbscript 5.6 (latest update) on your machine.

Are the In and Out ports correctly set?SecondSkin wrote:Markleford's script isn't doing anything at all...
Is the physical MIDI interface port *disabled* in FL? If it's not a multi-client driver on the port, then FL might be tying it up and not allowing scripts to access it.

I got both scripts working....my EZ-EG was too far down the midi chain and one of the other midi devices was not allowing sysex to pass through (probably my Octapad). Now that the EZ-EG is plugged directly into the midi interface everything is awesome.Markleford wrote:Are the In and Out ports correctly set?SecondSkin wrote:Markleford's script isn't doing anything at all...

Thanks again guys. Now that this is done, I should have the website up this week.

do either of the scripts allow for the 6 midi channels to be combined down into one?
Or is there a way to do this on the instrument itself?
I mostly use reaktor and having each string on a different channel would be a real problem.

Mine can do any number up to 6: combine all to one if you'd like. My GPO solo string tunings do four strings tuned in fifths on separate channels, with a fifth string the same channel as one other but an octave up (and the sixth string muted).knot0fvipers wrote:do either of the scripts allow for the 6 midi channels to be combined down into one?
Eventually mine will allow any button to be assigned to any channel and any port.
Nope.Or is there a way to do this on the instrument itself?
