hi
I got these 2 electro-voice 623's they look cool.I don't know whether they'll be useful or not, there old and the cords are shot but I'm gunna build new ones.
Theres not much info on them around, I did find an old snippet that said to change a wire in the connector to switch from lo-z to hi-z, but he didn't elaborate any further.
The connector is a 4 pin jack, is it just a matter of soldering 2 of the wires together to make only 3 energized, any idea which 2 wires it would be, or is it changing the position of a wire, don't know at all.
any ideas guys, would be appreciated
thanx

These mics are referenced a lot on harmonica sites.

They do look cool.

Here's a couple of wiring diagrams for model #'s 664 and 674. The 623 is probably the same.

Looks like to change from low to high impedance, you move white lead from pin 3 to pin 2.

HERE'Sa link to some pricey cables.

And HERE'Sa link to some vintage ads that have your mics.8)

Hope this helps. :)

I guess it depends on how you end up using them. If you use a mixer, I'd try lo-z first. Be careful you don't accidentally blast 'em with phantom power. I have an old Argonne bullet style mic that I wired up hi-z to a 1/4" plug and it works ok. I'll use a low to high z adaptor if I need to plug it into a mic jack.

Experiment and see what fills your needs best. :)
