That's the cool thing about a clever host - we can work in normal quality mode and check a box in the render dialogue to have ORION render Samplers in some ridiculously high over-sampling mode that takes 10 times as long. Note that I said "can" - I can't hear any difference in a mix so I don't bother with it, even for album tracks. But Rich assures me that it is much more accurate and I trust his judgement implicitly.

It seems to me that you would need a refreeze command at the very least -- seems like it wouldn't be practical to freeze after every edit of every midi note or controller value. In that case, the user would do a bunch of edits and then hit a refreeze (or "commit changes") button. In such a scenario, one would need to deal with the effects of having the midi data and frozen data out of sync (i.e., prior to committing the changes). Although a nice idea, it seems like there might be a lot of issues to deal with. My two cents, anyway.Leave it the way Cubase's and Sonar's is now, but still be able to copy/paste/edit midi data of the vsti that was frozen. then the freeze automatically kicks in to update the rendered audio file with the changes. My two cents, anyway.
wouldn't that be sweet? save unfreeze/edit/refreeze tedium?
why hasn't anyone implemented this?

I always worry that rendering the sound at a higher rate, than it was mixed at, will result in coloration of the sound. Have you noticed anything like this?BONES wrote:That's the cool thing about a clever host - we can work in normal quality mode and check a box in the render dialogue to have ORION render Samplers in some ridiculously high over-sampling mode that takes 10 times as long. Even though I have a fairly decent 1.7GHZ Centrino I still prefer to render to wav and then use rendered loops in my compsitions. This really has more to do with my compositional approach being more collage based than about saving CPU.

What about dealing with long releases, reverbs, delays etc? Never mind portamento, vco, lfo, vcf & vca state etc... Even on something dry you could get a really obnoxious click just by haviong the main osc suddenly start the cycle over at zero. How the heck is the vst supposed to remember where in it's calculations it were timebased before is was freezedried and unloaded from memory?Leave it the way Cubase's and Sonar's is now, but still be able to copy/paste/edit midi data of the vsti that was frozen. then the freeze automatically kicks in to update the rendered audio file with the changes. My two cents, anyway.

some hosts can already do: edit track then ctrl+f x 2 to refreeze trackttoz wrote:Not these rendering options, not freeze in it's current state, not even Sonar 4's.
The ultimate would be simple.

HI
Can't get much easier than SXV3 - I was using it the other day - I mean bar having a voice link up to save you pressing the un-freeze key what more could you want - even if you was able to alter the midi-data to a frozen (?) track you would still have to press 're-freeze' - OK, so you save 1 mouse click!!!
People getting lazy or what
.

i think we could then go back to use PIII ,yes it´s the swetest feature .ttoz wrote:Not these rendering options, not freeze in it's current state, not even Sonar 4's.

i don´t use freeze untill reaching the very end of the project and began the fine tunning ,untill them i offline and render as in the old days..
there are the last two slots empty and usable ,if is not enough i just call for art teknika console.
There is another feature that would make our lives easier which is the implement of render project to new folder .
everything betwen the locators rendered to audio ,track by track to a new folder , i think it´s a lot more pratical than the actual freeze function.
Bye.

my ultimate freeze feature would be per *part*, not per track...with frozen parts which can be copied and moved without limitations.
and even better would be: if you edit the vsti, the host would ask if you'd like to update the frozen parts...

since i´m on the my g5 i almost never have to freeze anymore .. even though i make heavy use of plugins.BONES wrote:I already have the ultimate freeze solution - Athlon64! Who needs freeze with one of those babies!?!
though, a "perfect freeze" would be superb for all our hosts.

how about some antifreeze then? any given wave-file would be converted to a bunch of vstis for maximum cpu loadputte wrote:since i´m on the my g5 i almost never have to freeze anymore .. even though i make heavy use of plugins.BONES wrote:I already have the ultimate freeze solution - Athlon64! Even dear old NTrack has freeze now, and the implementation is very robust. Once frozen, as with other hosts, it's of the Unfreeze->edit->Freeze again. It does have a convenient facility to reuse the previous freeze, for speed and A/Bing with the current edit.
It also allows freezing at group and buss levels, rather than just track. I know Podium allows this, but wouldn't know with other hosts.
