hi
today I started to mess around with Tracktion, well, I've been using FL Studio as my only host for 2 years, and feel stupid.
I haven't been able to make my vst synths sound. I mean, I guess it must be hyper-easy, I open the vst and draw some notes on a midi clip but it doesn't sound, and it doesn't sound either when i play my midi keyboard (I've selected it as midi imput)
I guess it must be something concerning midi output or smth like that, but please be patient with me cos I've just been making music for less than 2 years and since I tried several demo hosts and decided for FL, I haven't even touched another sequencer.
help.
thanks

Does it work ok when you press play in Tracktion? If so, you just need to enable the "e-to-e" (end to end) button above the cpu meter.

make sure your keyboard is 'connected' to the track your VSti is on (drag the little arrow on the left and 'stick' it to the start of the track - try it and youll see what i mean) and ensure that 'e-to-e' is lit in the transport section bottom-right ... if this doesnt work any chance you could post a screenshot of your tracktion edit so we can see what might be wrong ???
... hope this helps ...

thanks for your posts, I'll check it out asap.
(yes, I set an audio output, yes hehe)
another thing: I use FL as I say, but now I'm going to buy a hwardware synth, I've read a lot about FL not being very very good for this.
I thought about Tracktion then, since I own it. Do you think Tracktion is more suitable for external hardware synths than FL?

another silly thought ... check in the MIDI input and clip properties that you havent accidentally mismatched any MIDI channels with your VSTi ???

Check the track is routed to an audio output: even if it is a MIDI track, when the MIDI reaches your synth it is converted to an audio stream, and this audio needs to reach your soundcard outs for you to hear it.
Tracktion is quite capable of controlling hardware synths, but currently lacks any bank select features: whether this is a problem for you will depend on the type of synth you want to control..
No. Don't use fruity.origami wrote:. could you also comment about my other question?

What are you guys talking about. FL Studio works great with hardware synths. I've got it working suberbly with the four that I own- Alesis Ion, Korg EX-8000, Roland Jp-8000, and Alesis QS6.
I'm sure tracktion's cool too, but there's nothing wrong with FL Studio for this task either.

Nobody said not to use FL for hardware synths. platinumears just said that he can't comment because he doesn't use it.
I don't have any hardware synths myself, but I suspect Tracktion is not any "better" for them than Fruity, aside from the obvious workflow differences inherent in the two sequencers.
