Hey guys,

This is my first post here so ... well .. name's Andy, I'm almost 22, playing keys, guitars and vocals, and also composing and "trying" to mix and master :D

First post = first question in my case.

I want to sample some of the sounds on my Korg and create a halion bank or a gig file. What's the best way to do that? And how :) ..? And also what's best...iso or gig?

Hope someone decides to reply to what might seem as a dumb question, but hey ... live and learn.

Andy

I dunno, never done that... But welcome to KVR !!

i would record the sounds, chop them up and put it in a library with something like awave studio. Is that helpful?
My MusicCalc is temporary offline.
We are the KVR collective. Resistance is futile. You will be assimilated. :borg:

Weeeeeeeeeell... :bang:
I think what I would do is sample your Korg, edit the sounds (maybe using a PC editor such as Sound Forge or Cool Edit, etc.) and transfering them to Awave Studio - then you can select what output file you wanted, SF2 or GIG etc.
I've done the same thing, sampling onto my S5000 and transfering to PC for SF2 outputs. :D
What kinda sampler do you have?

Thx for the replys guys :D wellll .. I thought of that already but I don't know how to sample it ... do I sample 5-6 samples / note in order to get 5-6 velocities ... and how many octaves do I sample?

Best regards,
Andy

It's up to you. The more notes you sample, the better it sounds because the sample player you play the sf2/gig in won't have to transpose.

I'd decide the number of velocities dependent on the synth sound you sample. If on the real synth the velocity just modulates the volume, you won't need more than one velocity layer. If it modulates the filter cutoff frequency, the more=better rule applies again.

Dang .. thought it might be able to emulate it or soemthing ... in that case (since I want quality) .. I'm guessing it might take a while eh? :)

If you guys have any tips'n'tricks ... let me know please

Best regards,
Andy
