while i agree the results are pro sounding the music is woeful

and guarenteed they were mastered on something other than reason
I believe every thread should devolve into character attacks and witch-burning. It really helps the discussion.

It sounds just as pro as any other 16/24 bit sampler.
I think when people are talking about Reason sounding crap/unpro ....they are talking about the synth themself....as a sampler can sound like anything
Simple and repetive are my middle names

Yeah, I sure am guilty of chasing after the perfect plug-in instead of working on developing my musical chops. Someone with real talent can make something wonderful out of tapping two sticks together or blowing through a tube. This 'professional' BS is for wankers. Someone sitting on the corner with an old guitar with a broken string and a hat for spare change is more 'professional' than I am. At least they're getting paid (as little as that may be).
If you have requests for Korg VST features or changes, they are listening at https://support.korguser.net/hc/en-us/requests/new

this is way off topic but.......

laphrog is truly horrible stuff that is utterly indicative of the scottish tourist industries drive to sell scotland's shortbread tin quaintness to the world

laphrog is/was a distiller of a particularly peaty flavoured whisky that was/is used in making blended whiskies, but now that everyone wants single malt this and cask strength that they have discovered the joys of marketing full bottles of the stuff

what's even sadder is that the only single malt whiskies that actually taste even and smooth (like the blends - eg most of the speyside stuff, some of the islands stuff) are reffered to as "women's drinks" by the drinks snobs

how more macho can you get ?

still if it really works for you enjoy
it's the local tourist industry i ahve a problem with

And we, in Switzerland, export chocolate, swiss knives and coucou clock...what's the matter with that ???

sorry but i don't get your point :?:
..............where do you live?

If you listen to the lead sound in "Ocean" my track for this months Gossip contest, you'll hear Reason being used a lot. I think Reson isn't as good quality as the best sample players, but it has it's own sound.... and I like it. Same as my EIII Emulator has it's own sound.

Subjective, ain't it? Obviously there are people that like it or else he wouldn't be asked to do it again and again.

Yeah, I'm sure all of the big mastering houses are using Reason  :D

You have to admit, that is kind of a silly statement. Almost nobody masters there own stuff. They send it off to have it done by people that do that for a living. Those people have specialized gear for the final process.

...And it ain't a couple of Truths, a echo indigo and some headphones.

Initially, I was dissapointed by reason 3, but I think it will be a good update, and if I had to guess I bet they do a free 3.5 update with extra goodies...

Post

Since I was involved in creating patches for Reason3's new Factory Soundbank I hope people like them and will use them.

For sounddesign I can say that Reason is super cool. Reason3 is even cooler because it puts the focus on the Combinator. This is nice because I can now show people the Subtractor is really a great synth.

With the Combi I love the fact that you can simply combine for example a synth with an extra eq or a whole bunch of effects.

Reason3 offer new sounds because of the Mastering effects. Adding these to a Combi can create new sounds. Try to push the softclip in the Limiter for example, it really smooths the peaks and highend of your sounds. Try to push a Sub through it for example and simply listen? Warm, fat and funky, right?

The Refill format is great for sounddesigners. No installation trouble and no imcompatibilty weirdness some samplers are causing (EXS, Kontakt).
Kind regards,

To continue the OT stuff: all distilleries make whisky for blends as their main source of income. Single malts only account for a few precents of most distilleries total sales. There are a few exceptions though, like the MacAllen, who only sell single malt.

To say that single malts are only created to meet tourist demands is not entirely correct however. Single malts has had a long tradition, but the drinking trends have changed a little over the last years. It used to be that people started drinking blended whisky, and some people who thought it was worth the extra cost moved over to single malts. The problem for many distilleries today is that alot of people now start with white alchohol (vodka) and then move right on to single malts, skipping the blends. Since the blends are the primary income for most scottish distilleries alot of them are in a bad situation regardless of the popularity of single malts. Even if peopel where to start drinking single malts as much as they where blends this wouldn't solve the situation since a single malt takes at least 10 years to produce.

About the tastes. Once you have gotten to appreciate the more complex taste of a single malt it's hard to appreciate the relative blandness of a blended. Alot of people don't agree with the taste of single malts and for them there are blended whiskies. Personally I like full flavoured single malts and if I want a smoother drink I rather go with a good cognac.

Oh. Laphroaig is a highly acclaimed single malt by the way. Regarded as one of the best by people who enjoy the islay type of flavour.

BTW: Just got Reason 3.0 yesterday, and IMO it rocks. The remote functionality makes my mackie control useful (very useful), the M-class devices are great (finally a good compressor) and the Combinator.. well you just have to try it to realise how much cool stuff you can do with it..
