Version update 2.3 of Voxengo Elephant--a mastering limiter plug-in in PC VST format--is now available. This version introduces a new limiter mode EL-3 which is based on the EL-2 mode. This newer mode delivers a cleaner and a more 'round' sound and it also allows you to adjust limiter's release time. A control (Shape) to adjust limiter's transient handling is also available.

You may also find an intermediate stereo linking strength selection in this version. This allows you to get a less strict stereo-linked limiting, when necessary.

Please note that this version features a fully redesigned set of factory presets.

Voxengo Elephant features:

* Transparent limiting action
* 8 limiter modes
* 7 speeds for various styles of music
* Gain reduction VU meters
* Noise-shaped bit-depth converter
* RMS and peak RMS output counters
* Automatic attack and release
* DC removal filter
* Up to 4x oversampling
* "A-to-B" comparisons
* Factory presets
* Mono-to-Stereo, Stereo-to-Stereo processing
* Sample rates up to 96 kHz
* 64-bit internal precision

Voxengo Elephant VST is available for a discounted price of USD 59.95 ($10 off the regular price) which will be effective for two weeks. For more information and downloads please visit the Voxengo web site: http://www.voxengo.com

Well, anyone that hasn't bought it already should definitely pick it up. The best master limiter I've used. 8)

Thanks Aleksey!
I bought elephant, soniformer, curveeq and glisseq all this year and haven't regretted any of the purchases. You're constant updates make these even better value :)

That's some serious warning ! :D
Will have to check these out, even though I usually comeback to one preset and then shake those knobs ! :)
Thanks Aleksey !

Yes no doubt Elephant kicks butt and with this new EL-3 and release times and transient (shape) control there is some fantastic control (without distortion).

I fact I just made a psuedo multi-band Elephant limiter for a mix by cloning a track 3 times and inserting a lowpass EQ/Elephant, bandpass/EQ Elephant, and highpass EQ/Elephant into the 3 tracks. A multi-band Elephant!

Aleksey - how does the 'speed' control affect shape and release in EL-3? It seems there is an effect so it looks like things are inter-dependent somewhat.

Thanks for the free update!

Kyle, Speed controls the 'width' of attack slope. Most compressors have 1.5ms static width (including Waves L2, UAD Precision Limiter). In Elephant you may have widths of attack slopes ranging from 0.5ms (max) to 2.4ms (min). This also affects the overall coloration, the 'min' setting giving the less coloration. Actually, coloration will always be in presence, especially on high gain values, but Speed setting may shift it from higher frequencies ('max') towards lower frequencies ('min').

Thanks Aleksey ! Elephant sure sounds good (and undistorted) I'm using it right now on a big fat kick drum that had a few too many loud jazz kicks on the track. :wink:

Aleksey, how do I set the Elephant 2.3 to sound like Precision Limiter type A (and/or B) and running auto mode.

I already own the Elephant and I have spent half a day A/B-ing with PL to find the PL sounded just a little better to my ears. Not much, only a tiny bit. So if I can make Elephant sound like that I may save $200.

Maybe describe in what way they differ? I've yet to hear anything beat Elephant but then again I have not heard precision limiter. However, I've heard the L2 hardware unit which is the benchmark (and sounds way better than the native plugin btw) and I find Elephant even better sounding!

Edit: Oh I forgot to tell that we compared some pop, hiphop and some electro/nearly trance kind of thing through the various limiters.

Cheers!

Good point. I am nearing the decision point and PL still has 192Khz support over EL-2.

I don't think its fair to compare a 70$ software plugin with a $150 DSP driven plugin... but just the fact that there is that comparison says a lot for Elephant.

I have a UAD-1 card but don't see it as a replacement for software plugins - of course, unless you have 3 UAD cards, you can't!! Damn shame UAD plugs are so inneficient.

So, if I'm runnning the Plate 140 (UA finally learned how to make useable reverb, but which requres 'only' about half the DSP) and a few others, it makes sense for me to slap the ol elephant on the master stereo out -instead- of buying another UAD card to to run their limiter.

Elephant tramples.
