Funkybot wrote:Hi Torben, quick question, how would one set up the sidechaining in Sonar? I'm used to the stock "fake sidechaining" of a left channel track sidechaining the track on the right, but I'm not sure as to how I'd route two stereo tracks into the same plug-in without both being compressed.

Or do I just have to wait for the manual  ?
There will be three versions; stereo (2 in 2 out), stereo with side chain (4 in 2 out) and mono with side chain (2 in 1 out). I have not investigated in Sonar's routing possibilities so I do not know if it will support the 4 in 2 out version.

Yeah from what I know Sonar wouldn't allow for this, but I'll but check the manual to confirm.
I'm sorry this post wasn't about techno.

Heh, I learnt a trick in Muzys to get JCM900 to work in stereo: split the signal and use two busses! :D

One buss gets the left signal, one gets the right. Mono effects unit on each. Then recombine the outputs onto the final stereo out. I guess I could use two of the "mono" side-chaining plugs in a similar fashion.

Is there reason why the de-ess section has no "listen" button (to home in on the offending frequency?)

It has been cut down to the fundemental controls. It is pretty easy to see on the LED when it is working and test has shown that around 5kHz works well for most vocals.

This looks extremely useful for processing stereo mixes. The copy feature looks promising as well. I'm intrigued. :)

No, it's just a phase shift button.

Torben
:-o How about implementing inverted envelope now when it's still possible? I'd like to use it in the same way as vocoders are sometimes used to make a synth-pad pump in time with a drum-beat. I mean that the sidechain's volume controls the pad's volume and gives VERY nice rhythmic effects (loud sidechain signal => loud main signal) :) So it would be the opposite of the typical trance/house kick & bass ducking effect.
It does not sound like a thing you will get just by inverting the envelope. What you want is rather an envelope follower controlling a gain.

Torben
Come to think of it you can actually do what you want. Just use parallel processing and invert one of the chains. When the compressor is inactive the sound in the two chains will cancel due to the phase shift and when the signal in one chain is compressed the sound will be turned up. Just as you asked for ;)
