Hi

I'm leaning towards Sonar4 (still waiting for T2 though) but the PE is a bit expensive for me. SE I could afford soon. The difference being almost double the price for PE.

Question is: would SE do it for me?

1) I don't do surround nor video
2) I would like the mpex stretch thing
3) POW sounds promising
4) I'm not sure how good is (or how handy is it to have) EQ in the channel strip (only PE, right).

I did do my homework and checked the differences. Still not sure. I mean, I definetly won't do any surround or video.

having eq in the mixer is very handy
although having said that, I usually use eqium

if you don't need surround, or the sonitus fxs, or the eq.. go for studio

you won't have POW though

If you already have a good EQ then do you need Sonars one? It's not that special and I don't think it's significantly cpu friendly compared to other EQ's. As for POW - does anyone use it? I haven't needed it yet. I got the PE version because I upgraded from Sonar 3 Pro. It seemed daft not to. There are some good deals on Sonar 4 Pro.

I don't know: POW might be very useful. I do most things now in 44.1/24 bit format.

What option does SE have for that conversion?

Mpex algorithm is another important thing: I plan to use the groove clips feature a lot (probably).

Well you don't need to use Sonar's internal dither anyway. If you buy a plug-in like Voxengo's Elephant or Izotope's Ozone, you'll have a plug-in that dithers for you. Like Munchkin, I have Sonar 4PE, and only got it because I had 2.2 XL, so to not upgrade to PE, woulda seemed silly considering the price it was offered. Besides the dither, which like I already stated, could easily be replaced, the only other real feature I use specific to Sonar 4PE is the MPEX. Though what about that Sonitus suite? Is that included in Studio Edition? Having those plugs around has come in quite handy on a few occasions.

I can't find Slovenia in the list of countries that cannot order directly from Cakewalk US ...

So, maybe this works: Purchase e.g. Guitar Tracks PRO (59 €) at Edirol Europe and register it. Thus you should be able to order the SONAR 4 upgrade special for registered Cakewalk users (349 $ <> approx. 269 €). In total not that much more expensive than buying SONAR Studio as a new customer.
