Thought I would start a new thread on Sample Mapper. The manual goes into a long explanation of how to set up multi-samples and just looking at it is probably enough to put most people off. However after that is a brief reference to WS Sample Mapper and this really is a cool tool! Just drop a group of samples into it and if the samples names end with the sampled notes, it can automatically map them across an entire range. Then click "save" and you have a Wusiksound file ready to use - couldn't be simpler!
I have already set up a whole new range of Soundsets for myself, mostly using samples included on the disks with Computer Music magazine. For example, the Garriton strings set from a couple of months ago have long, short, plucked and tremolo sample sets for violin, viola, cello and bass - and they sound absolutely fantastic through the ManyStation engine! And of course the layering and splitting that MS offers allows some very impressive string orchestra sounds to be easily constructed.
I presume I can't really share these as I don't own the copyright of the samples, but it really is easy to set up if you have access to the mag disks and a copy of Sample Mapper.
Anyone else using this? The only problem I have had is setting up velocity splits, but I haven't tried that hard yet to be honest as I would probably prefer to do the splits directly in MS with the different layers as this will give more control.

glad you like it
as for the velocity splits if you have two samples dragged in then you can highlight one and then ctrl/alt click on another to combine them as one velocity layered group. ctrl clicking adds the clicked on sample as quietest velocity layer and alt clicking adds it as the loudest.
alternatively you can just drag multiple files in with group as velocity layer checked.

Heh
You know Phil..
I love the original mapper for all the things we do here.
I got into the habit of naming samples proper as I edit them so for this williams tool is Great.
It really is so Much easier than first glance at the manual.
But yes jtxx000 has made it nice and graphical to map.
It just depends what you are comfortable with i guess and ...how your samples are named.
Thanks again to jtxx000
Also you mention about doing splits in layers seperately.
That is a definate Plus feature! I would do that for sure.. It makes the samplesets so much more versatile in use.

Yeah, thanks to jtxx000! I'm not big into creating samples myself and had a number of sets of samples that are named with root notes at the end, which makes using WS Sample Mapper an absolute breeze! I was even dragging them straight off a CD-ROM or DVD into Sample Mapper, click Save and I instantly have a great soundset ready for use.
By the way, when I tried dragging multiple files in with Group as Velocity Layer checked, it didn't work. No big deal, as Paul says, it is more versatile to use layers within MS itself.
