CMuzys: Starting / Ending Sequences NOT on bar boundaries

(also posted at CM forum)
I'm convinced I've read that CMuzys can do this, but I couldn't make it work so I'm asking for help.
I have a simple, 1-bar MIDI drum sequence with high-hat hits on the quarter notes (named Tick4). I also have a one bar MIDI sequence with a little cymbal crescendo that spans the first beat, the remaining three beats just being fade time.
I know if I have a sequence lasting mutliple bars and I only draw it in the composer window for one bar, Cmuzys will only play the first bar of it. What I want to do is play Tick4 for about 5 measures plus 3 beats of the 6th measure, and then start the cymbal crescendo on the 4th beat of the 6th measure. But if I shorten the 6th instance of Tick4, it shortens that sequence to 3 beats globally. Meanwhile, I can't get the crescendo to start on other than bar (measure) boundaries anyway. I've looked in the help file at entries about snap and grids and such, but haven't managed to find anything useful.
Is what I'm trying just not going to work, or am I just overlooking the way to make it happen? Thanks.

There's more than one way to do it. Several tracks, using Mute automation, for example...
Argh, I managed to do this by accident over the weekend (start a part on a non-bar boundary) but I can't see how, now. There's definitely a way to start the part other than at the start of the sequence (in Muzys - not sure on CMuzys).
If I remember tomorrow evening, I'll have a look...

This happens sometimes to me in the full Muzys. Occaisionally, the Absolute and Relative Position timer windows (on the right hand side of the Control window) get set to a value that does not correspond to the beginning of a sequence. The next time I hit play, the sequence begins from the point specified in one of these windows, rather than from the beginning. So, a question to you DaveL... when you stop a sequence, what are the time values in these counters? If they are not 1:1:000, then there you go.pljones wrote:There's definitely a way to start the part other than at the start of the sequence (in Muzys - not sure on CMuzys).
I believe you can reset the values to 1:1:000 simply by hitting the rewind button.
Hope this helps, Lewis

If i understand you well, i would just let play Tick4 for 5 measures and 3 beats.
Thus make that "Tick4" part 5 measures and 3 beats long.
That won't affect Tick4's sequence length, but that part will only play the sequence
for 5 measures and 3 beats
Concerning the Cymbal crescendo: goto the top-left corner of the Song Composer,
and click the button "Options" (above the track names).
There you'll find "Mouse Snapping". If you put that on "Beats",
you can copy/move parts around on beat boundaries.
Hope this helps!

Well, that's pretty much exactly what I was trying to do, but I guess I misunderstood how to go about it. I'd created a 5 measure part and a 1 measure part. When I edited the "length" of that final one measure in the field below the composer window, it changed the length of Tick4 globally.muzycian wrote:If i understand you well, i would just let play Tick4 for 5 measures and 3 beats.

Cool. Poked there but guess I didn't look hard enough.muzycian wrote:Concerning the Cymbal crescendo: goto the top-left corner of the Song Composer,

I'll give these a try when I get time (probably the weekend, sad to say). Thanks, Jo. I see you posted both here and at the CM forum -- that's above and beyond the call of duty.

Tried this quickly on my work machine copy of CMuzys. Looks like it's really the key to both of the things I want to do. Thanks very much, Jo, I've overlooked that before.muzycian wrote:goto the top-left corner of the Song Composer, and click the button "Options" (above the track names). So, before I was here:
And now I'm here:
And maybe a little bit here:
Thanks again.

Jo - it's good to have you around
The "Options" box at the bottom of the Compose window also lets you adjust the start and length of a Part.
What I can't find now, though, is where I thought you could get a Part to start later in the sequence... Maybe I did dream it?

DaveL, as I think you've figued out... you don't want to change the length of Tick4, you just want to stretch the 1 measure part across 5 measures + 3 beats by changing the snap grid from measure to beat.

Yes, that must have been a dream.pljones wrote: What I can't find now, though, is where I thought you could get a Part to start later in the sequence... Maybe I did dream it?
A good one!
