Hmmm... sounds like it's personal preference... I'm going to use them in Fruity and or Orion... I usually put a compressor on the master, and an eq too... don't compress the drums much, but my mastering is limited to the master out, and not too much manipulation of the indvidual tracks... I usually just add fx to tracks... Since I had to rebuild my old PC (the MOBO went south), I thought I might add a few plugs, and a new instrument, just to celebrate the rebirth of the wife's office/DAW PC!!

Forgot... I have Vintage warmer... and PSP fx pack (Nitro, 48, 84)... and Spin Audio's bundle as well... Thanks!

Lazlo,
can you tell me how the new Elephant 2.3 compares to Precision Limitier on direct A-B. My trial period for PL has expired and I had probably almost bought it, had I not been down with flue this week. Does Elephant 2.3 have that additional clarity that I missed in 2.2 compare to PL?

Post

Haven't tried precision limiter but the new EL-3 algorithm in elephant 2.3 is fantastic! However, it requires much more finetuning than the EL-2 algo and can easily be abused (in both good and bad ways!). For hiphop/pop I suggest turning the release and shape knobs both towards two o'clock to give the "middle" image breathing space (it slightly narrows the stereo image by reducing side information gain, probably because of the longer release) and if you need more "punch" and faster action just dial both dials close to zero but watch out for slight distortion if driven hard.

Cheers!

I need to A/B them. Haven't yet. Honestly, tho, I have no real reason to leave Precision Limiter. I love it, and prefer it's level metering to Elephant's, as well.

Hi bManic,

Thanks for the suggestions. BTW - did you check out Elemental Audio's Finalis? What did you make of its sound - pretty transparent in my tests.

then why not check out curveEq and elephant? this way you wouldn't have so many duplis imo. fruity compressor ain't all that bad either.

that's why I liked the *2 mode - it was *dial in the levels* set-an-forget :P ... next! these sort of plugs should come with *mind reader* included ...

I use both GlissEQ and Crunchessor a lot! The tube freebie (Tube Amp?) is great for warming up samples! That's my three(!) favourites.

Voxengo TarnseSynth and Qualityifier

The Voxengo plugins are really fantastic. My favorites are Elephant, Analogflux Suite (TapeBus & Chorus), GlissEQ, and Pristine Space.

The variety of plugins is a bit bewildering at first - do I use elephant, polysquasher, soniformer, or warmifier to master my mix? - but the best is to try the demos and go from there...

for what it's worth - i use curve eq ALOT for tracks - even tho it's frequently discussed for mastering.

you reshape and tweak tone with that baby - in an unparalleled fashion.
