i picked up waves musicians bundle last year....very happy with the raxx compressor, by the way. but i just bought a new machine with winxp sp2 installed. my version 4 would crash the computer right at the end of the installation, and the version 5 update would would give me a blurb saying my demo had expired and abort the installation. both would have the whole programs installed in the waves program folder, but oplat and sound forge couldn't see them. i went to waves tech support......only took a week for the answer:
"Please follow these instructions;
1. Go to www.paceap.com, on the right side of the screen under "END USERS",
you will see a dropdown menu that reads "Download drivers".
2. Open the menu and choose "Windows Drivers", this will open a download dialog,
save the installer to your desktop.
3. Run the Interlok Extension installer."
then a bunch of other instructions to complete the installation. so now i finally have run into a situation where i hate pace. i always wondered what the bitch was al about.

i'm probably going to hate dongle as soon as i want to use protools on the machine i don't have mbox hooked to.....and there's another pain i'm having....protools latest 6.4 for windows will install on the new machine but crashes upon openiong....blue-screen, no less. coling fan takes off like a rocket...kinda scarey, actually.
i'd rather have a mullet than a comb-over.
fortunately, i have neither.

i installed the pace driver updates....reinstalled and went thru challenge/response, no problem. so the punchline is, if you are doing a fresh installation of waves plugs on winxp sp2, install the updated pace drivers before you install the waves package.
also, i just reinstalle pt 6.4.....and suddenly it works. go figure.

yeah, i figured........now does anybody know why acidpro 5.0 won't open......on neither of my machines, which are both winxp sp2? i'm assuming it's an sp2 conflict and waiting for my support email. makes me nervous about the soundforge8 upgrade......vst support is going to be impossible to resist, tho......and cd architect.
what i'm wondering really, is why do all the freebies out there work without a hitch on sp2 but the paid-for stuff has issues? is it always going to be a copy protection issue?

Well, no names mentioned - but I hear some people are buying the software and using dongle-less versions to get round such issues!

I do not know if this will solve your problem but I also had a problem with Acid Pro 5 not opening in WinXP SP2. Acid Pro 5 needs Microsoft's .NET Framework (I believe v1.1) to be installed.uncadave wrote:yeah, i figured........now does anybody know why acidpro 5.0 won't open......on neither of my machines, which are both winxp sp2? i'm assuming it's an sp2 conflict and waiting for my support email. makes me nervous about the soundforge8 upgrade......vst support is going to be impossible to resist, tho......and cd architect.
When I updated from SP1 to SP2, something must have gotten corrupted with .NET on my machine. I re-installed the latest .NET and then Acid Pro 5 would start to work again (not perfectly, though, since I would occasionally get a few crashes that I did not have with SP1).
I am not sure if this may help you, but it seemed to help me with some of my problems.
Cheers,
Rabban
