I need a way to mix seperate drum tracks without having to apply the same effect to all the durms

Read your Battery manual and find out how to set it to use multiple outputs.

If the DXi version supports multiple outputs, then configuring it for multiple outputs will be in the manual. If it doesnt, he has Sonar4 which comes with the VST-DX wrapper, so he can use the VST and configuring it for multiple outputs will be in the manual.
