'Respectable' by Mel and Kim makes me want to vomit, but save enough in my mouth so that I can choke to death on it.

Has anyone mentioned the song that goes: "Dry Your Eyes Mate..."
Have there been any decent spoken word songs?

look, I'm going to mention the Beautiful South again, in the hope that someone will ratify that they are, indeed, the most hateful bunch of pretentious gits on the planet, bar none.

LBN: Absolutely. I forgot to post those. They go together. And with them (straight to Hades) can go:
Smackwater Jack -- Carole King (?!?!)
Indiana Wants Me -- R. Dean Taylor

yeah I hate them too, with their horrible insipid little songs and they way they're always dressed for a fishing tripscuzzphut wrote:look, I'm going to mention the Beautiful South again, in the hope that someone will ratify that they are, indeed, the most hateful bunch of pretentious gits on the planet, bar none.

Let's not forget this emetic little gem:
That fateful night the car was stalled
upon the railroad track --
I pulled you out and we were safe...
But you went running ba-a-aaaack!
Teen angel, can you hear me?
Teen angel, can you see me?
Are you somewhere up above,
And I am still your own true love?
What was it you were looking for
That took your life that night?
They said they found my high school ring
Clutched in your fingers tight!
Teen angel, can you hear me?
Teen angel, can you see me?
Are you somewhere up above,
And I am still your own true love?
With songs like that, it's no wonder sales of ipecac plummeted during the 1950s.

Here's some of mine: (couldn't narrow it to just one...)
More than words - Extreme
Leader of the Pack - Twisted Sister remake
Coward of the County - Kenny Rodgers
Afternoon Delight - ?
If I had a Hammer - Spock
Dirty Diana - Michael Jackson
I could just go on and on and on but I'll stop here (for now)

al2k1, have you seen the movie Anchorman, or seen/heard the clip in which the TV news crew break into an a capella rendition of Afternoon Delight? :-D The song is loathly, yes, but it fits the period, and the scene, perfectly.

It was extremely corny, tacky, and IMO right funny. First time I've ever heard that song on my own receiver and not turned it off straightaway.
Anyway, I want to defend nonsense songs like "Bip Bop." The words are supposed to be gibberish, of course.
A previous generation had "Mairzy Doats" and "Hutsut Ralston on the Rillerah" and the like. My generation had "Bip Bop" and "Hocus Pocus" (it's similar, anyway). Silly, yes -- very. Bad? Not necessarily. ;-)
