Yeah, and anyway, last I heard, the props were focusing on Reason as an instrument. So regardless of the intent in their original launch, the product has morphed.

One thing I know is that because of Reason, I started working with other tools that used wiring... first Moog Modular V and now Reaktor.

Reason definitely introduced me to the modular concept.

No - For real!!

It's on my turntable right now - just flipped to side 2

I've been a big dub/reggae lover since around 1980 when I first heard 'best dressed chicken in town' by Dr Alimantado - killer album :D :D

When thinking about this "it's an all in one studio" versus "it's all you'll ever need" versus what-have-you, it's important to consider this. Just about everyone old enough to learn Reason is experienced enough to distinguish between marketing talk and real features/functions, yes?

Whenever I hear sweeping, grand claims, I take them with a grain of salt (that is, I wonder what the limits and exceptions are). I suspect most people in this thread do the same. So why argue over marketing phrases? (I've yet to hear impOSCar scream exactly like a real bastard, but will forgive the hyperbole. ;-D)

Use Reason (or FL, or your favorite software) the way you like. Don't let promotional copy or marketing catchphrases determine how you regard the software. Get the demo, play around with it in person, and figure out at first-hand just what it does and how to use it.

Don't get hung up over advertising slogans, look inside and see for yourself.

I got rid of my akai's when I got Kontakt whats your point? I dont count NN19 because NNXT does everything NN19 does, plus a lot more.

S_A_P® wrote:well to be fair reason is about 5 years old now so the legacy synths included maybe arent up to par with todays standards...
So why don't they update 'em? The're not nearly as old as the original Pro 50 or whatever the first iteration was and Reason isn't as old as Fruity or ORION so that's no excuse at all.
Meffy wrote:So when you do want to make your own combis, it's not really that intimidating
But its a lot more work than programming a single synth to do the job.
Acolmiztli wrote:I can't say it enough. BUILD BUILD BUILD BUILD. You're SUPPOSED to use more than one synth to achieve the sound you need, this is Reason's strength not its weakness.
If I can't find one synth to do a job, if I really, really can't, then I might think about doubling up but it is an admission of defeat, not of strength.
Apflaum wrote:First off, I think demanding an instant "phat" sound is kinda lame. Who in their right mind would expect or want subtractor to pull up and sound like the minimonsta?!?
Well, if you can't use MiniMonsta as a plugin I would have thought it would be kinda handy. Anyway, there are free synths that can sound as big as MiniMonsta so why shouldn't something as expensive as Reason be able to do it simply?
braj wrote:For anyone who thinks the Combinator isn't a big deal, imagine something similar in another host:
You mean like eXT for 39 euros?

End of page 4 now. I'm bored so this will do. The point is tha tthis discussion really confirms my opinion of Reason - that its more like SimSynth than anything else - a stand-alone softsynth - only with greater complexity. I prefer tools that play a little better with others, thanks.

Nah man, there is one thing NNXT doesn't do, and thats allow you to automate the sample start via a knob.

This, for me at least, validates the continued existence of the NN19.

I see squids has posted here and I wanted to say that
the Sonic Reality malstrom and sub patches are really
the best I've come across by far--totally dusting the combinator pad patches in the 3.0 demo. great job.

Reading all this and writing this reply must have taken you away from Reaktor for almost half an hour too, though, and from what I gather, your mind is all made up already. Hm. ;)
