I think you should use the occult and insidious knowledge gained on these boards and slowly use this power to subliminally convince your new group to become a KVR tribute band...you know covers of Sicklecell, vurt epics, etc.

however, the interesting thing to me is that the guy who hired me mentioned liking my songwriting and arranging skills (this from remembering stuff from 20 years ago!)
so, maybe we'll at least get in a bluedad cover or two.
I'm looking at a Hammond XM-1 mod! It's been here at the store I work at for two years..maybe I can get it cheap. doubt it, but maybe.

Why don't you just go ahead and pick up the 88 key Korg Oasys? I mean, you got $8,000 just sittin' around don't ya?

emdot, I get the impression that bluedad doesn't like to toss his petty cash around, without at least a little due consideration.
I don't blame him. $8K here, $8K there, pretty soon it all adds up to real money! Isn't that right, bluedad?

But it's a paying gig, right?McLilith wrote:emdot, I get the impression that bluedad doesn't like to toss his petty cash around, without at least a little due consideration.

In all seriousness, I'd love to play live again . . . but the thought of doing so from a PC sends curddles up me spine--nice mixed metaphor, eh?--and lugging keyboards around ain't my cup-o-joe.
Good luck to you bluedad!

heck man, if I've got $8k just laying around, my time would be better spent laying out on the beach somewhere instead of playing in some smoky bar.

seriously, though, I'm giving the pc route a thought.
I mean, really, my pc is very stable, I don't see why it couldn't do the job.

Bar room smoke, perhaps? I wonder what toll that will take on a PC? You might need to filter the air coming through the case, and change the filters on a regular basis?bluedad wrote:seriously, though, I'm giving the pc route a thought.

Is your system a notebook, or a full-size system?
Does it use a CRT or LCD monitor? If CRT, the high voltage section will attract smoke particles like crazy. I doubt a CRT monitor would have a full lifespan in a smokey room.
just thinking out loud...

hmm, I was considering my current desktop (and building me another) but I hadn't considered the effects of smoke on it.McLilith wrote: Does it use a CRT or LCD monitor? 1) Is the power supply stable at the bar?bluedad wrote:I'm giving the pc route a thought.

2) Smoke particles
3) Beer bottle particles (it's been known to happen...people get pissed and throw stuff)
4) Idiots dropping, knocking, bumping, or being otherwise physically abusive to your sensative PC.
5) Theft...I had a PG-200 programmer stolen at a gig--you know, a programmer for a Roland JX3P. It didn't do anything without the keyboard but someone swiped it all the same
6) Travelling back and forth to gigs, PC cards do come loose--not permanent damage but damned annoying
7) Someone unplugs you accidentally...how long does it take you to reboot and reload your stuff?
It's a frightening world out there.

No worries. It's a PC, what could happen?
If the laws weren't so stringent here's what I'd use:http://www.roland.com/products/en/FR-7/
Plus it's an accordion. Basically theft-proof.
Good luck with the gig....
