Nah, its an admission of your lazy ass wanting everything done for you.
Yes, you're probably right. I could never be arsed programming several synths and adding effects and getting it all to sound right when I can just dial-up a preset.

Oh, wait a minute, I've got it backwards - its Combinator that saves me having to do all that. Silly me, its seems that you're the lazy-arse, thinking that Combinator might be useful. Moron!

Fanboyism sure makes people irrational, on both sides of the divide. Reason 3 is better than Reason 2.5, but generally not better than a powerful DAW with quality VSTis. But it requires less horsepower generally and has some nice new performance features that make the upgrade attractive for many Reason owners.

My take on this is that it may not be that attractive new at $400 or whatever the new price is, but to a current Reason user $129 to make your investment (in time, sweat, refills, tears, whatever) much more powerful.

Reason is a bit long on the tooth in many ways, but for me, there's no greater app that makes me feel like I own a bunch of really cool rack mount hardware that I can carry around with me anywhere. I would never claim it sounds as good as Minimonsta etc, but it does sound good to me. For my mobile setup, it sips about the right amount of juice and given a the right host (Live4) I can do quite a lot. And I'll still use VSTi if I need them.

Anyway, my point is it's not all black and white. A hammer isn't the fanciest tool, but when you need to dive a nail, it's better than a chain saw.

Combinator? Oh, that's the Energy XT clone that lacks VST support, right? ;)

Majken,
Subduer is kinda similar to Subtractor in terms of it's layout but IMO it sounds a whole lot better :)

Could you just shut your fukking over opinionated cakehole for once Bones.
Has it ever dawned on you that if you can sit there and work with Synth Edit that some of use actually do program our own custom Combi patches.
Some of us even rex our own files and design our own NNXT patches also.
Firstly I still don't know what this is doing in HOST's as REASON is not VST host anyway.
Secondly no one loves to throw around the term Fanboy more than they do if REASON is mentioned.
I quite frankly would have sold Reason 2.5 if not for this upgrade because batch device handling and multi device channel automation was a big fat nightmare on previous versions.

Just as many people buy VST's ( and damn expensive ones at that ) and use presets only.

So was does your wonderfuly enlightened view point offer as any different here.

No software is perfect for f**ks sake.
And everything has a weakness.

Fruity has a hideous interface.
Orion is alot better in this respect.
I still think Project 5 V2 will be better than both Fruity and Orion onn release myself.

It isn't what you use it's how you use it.
People will always use presets and alot who don't aren't all that gifted at patch programming either.
6 of 1 and 1/2 a dozen of the other if you ask me.

Not when someone accuses me of being lazy. As for the rest of it, read the f**king title of the thread - it was hardly asking for people to say nice things about Reason, was it? All I was doing was agreeing with the thread author and offerring my experience to illustrate the point. I fyou want to disagree, go somewhere else where people have nice things to say about over-priced, limited software.

I got rid of my akai's when I got Kontakt whats your point? I dont count NN19 because NNXT does everything NN19 does, plus a lot more.
Nah man, there is one thing NNXT doesn't do, and thats allow you to automate the sample start via a knob.

This, for me at least, validates the continued existence of the NN19.
There is a dirty workaround though. If you're not using velocity for anything you can map sample start to velocity and automate that. Not always useful, but sometimes..
