Is there free software to convert midi so I can use it as a ringtone? I know it exists but how would I get it to my phone If i have no cables or software. its a nokia and it plays polyphonic tones. Is there an editor I can download on my phone. Im not really sure what my options are.

The only free one I'm aware of is Nokia's own Audio-Suite, but I warn you: the software is buggy as hell, and the conversion process is not very user-friendly.. if it was I might be out of a job!
You will need cables and software to get it onto your phone (unless you feel like setting up a WAP site

well, it depends on your mobile. but in generell all mobiles are capable to play midi-files (more or less accurate):
try these tools:

yamaha smaf tools:

as far as i know there is no soundeditor for any mobile (not in j2me anyway!), and for sure not any 'midi' export.

No idea what the first link is all about (I only do English I'm afraid) but you can ignore the second: SMAF is the wrong format for your Nokia!
What model of phone is it? You might get away with a standard GM file if it is fairly simple, and / or you have quite a posh phone, but the Nokia 3510 (for example) has a bug which will stop it playing more complex files unless they have been specifically optimised..
