Hey fellas

Whats the most cpu friendly midi and audio sequencer? Things I abolutely need:

- A grid
- A pencil
- Copy, paste and cut
- Time resolution 1/2 to 1/64 and triplets (audio and midi)
- Quantizing features with strenght and swing (MIDI)
- MTC sync (!!)
-At least 16 stereo audio tracks and multiple recording
- VST support (VSTi not necessary)
- Some onboard fx (EQ, master fx, delay and verb)
- Mixing capabilities
- Consolidating audio regions (!!!)
- Automation support
- MIDI overdub
- Easy fading (Pro Tools way)
- Audio timestretch
- Maybe an intern small sample editor (dont really need this but could be handy

)

For Windows XP

(Tracktion is best so far but doesnt support mtc

(Idiots @ Mackie..

And I hate to work with the Cooleditpro multitracker)

Still looking for the Holy Grail? Which host came closest until now? And what essential functionality did it miss?

What do you mean by "consolidating"? Would you regard Tracktion as having no mixing capabilities because of the absence of a mixer?

A combination of EnergyXT as a plug-in with another host (tracktion, audiomulch, podium, nuendo, protools, buzz, etc)

all of the sequencers nowadays meet your requirements. I recomend Protools with an mbox or digi because in my opinion it is the easiest sequencer to pick up and use. Things like timestretch, consolidating, and automation are stupid easy in protools.

At the same time though the plugins that come with protools are garbage so you should think about getting an effect package. make sure you check out if it works on your machine before you plunk down your money. Protools is annoyingly snobby when it comes to hardware.
As a second choice I recomend Cubase SX. Its a little harder to get around but when you do it is great, and the bundled plugins are better than the ones that come with the vanilla version of protools. Also, cubase is a little better with midi sequencing as protools kind of threw in midi sequencing as an afterthought.

It all comes down to which one you feel most comfortable with.

I dont know what mtc sync but im sure someone that does will post about it and help you out.

I hope this helped point you in a good direction for what you need.

Give Fl Studio a run, you may be surprised.
Have tried them all, on my box FL seems to go the fartherst before running out of steam.

I have tested everything really. From FL to PT to Tracktion to Cooledit.
Except for EnergyXT and Project5 but I read that its a cpu hog.
The one that came the closest was PTLE 6 because of its audio functions. (time stretch, consolidating and fades) But this will nut run on my P3 laptop from 690mhz with only 256mb of memory. And PT is a bit buggy

Wich ran best was Tracktion 1. (when is Tracktion 2 there?)
I read Live has weak audio quality after rendering.

Live 1-2-3 are good for the cpu. Version 4 on the other hand is a bit cpu unfriendly and the midi editing on live4 is a pain

I swopped my Tascam US428 for a 001. I will use my desktop again for recording and the laptop for interneting.
I used this desktop as a vsti rack with Chainer. I guess ill do everything on 1 comp than with Pro Tools LE 6.1

btw, y´all should check out Audiomulch. Its a great app

is it audiomulch or bidule that you can use to add a Rewire interface (i.e. load it up in your host - in my case Ext - and use it to rewire in Rebirth or Reason)
or neither ?
