Very much so. Seems to be something quite lacking in my current collection of sounds. Lots of strings, but nothing out of the ordinary. I've been looking for down/up strokes (found 1 in the reason soundbank, discussing this right now on the props site actually). Seems to be something i cant find much of and i'm hoping for in the premium.
Squids - any comments on that? What could we expect from the strings premium?
thanks

The Premium Refills with M-Audio will now be Premium Instruments (sound libraries) supporting the following formats: NNXT, EXS, HALion, Kontakt and Mach 5. They're expanding support for other samplers now that distribution for Propellerheads has changed. We're doing at least the Premium Grand Piano and the Acoustic Guitar. There are a few others in the pipeline but I am not sure about strings with that series. However, I AM sure that we'll do more orchestral refills soon. In fact, I am even thinking of releasing the Miroslav Mini Orchestra collection that he did as a refill. We own all of the Miroslav archives and that library which sold for $349. could go for a bit less and be a nice one for Reason perhaps. What do you think? It's better than some other orchestral libraries in that price range. I can add some up and down stroke alts too. I'd like to have Miroslav Philharmonik out first though because it was already announced and I don't want to detract from it (it is a FANTASTIC plug-in!). But, for Reason users we're pretty much available to make anything at this point. I just LOVE Reason 3 now that it has the Combinator and we can not only put a face to the sounds but also do "our thing" with the layering and processing that we like to do with our "workstation" sounds.
So, we have more refills planned besides that too. SampleTank and Reason are our two main formats but this year we're doing a lot more support for additional formats too including Giga 3. It's all coming together nicely.

Squids,
Thanks for the reply. I think an expressive set of string samples for reason would be excellent. Its funny, i've never actually paid attention to the lack of expressiveness in most string samples til just this past week - i hear so much in music now that i think would be very difficult to achieve with the common sample. If miroslav had any of that it would be excellent to be able to use it.
What might the mini-orchestra collection have? That does sound interesting. Even something to complement the Orkester refill would be nice. What as the miroslav full final price going to be?

Let me join Steve here. I've been a little disappointed with string samples for reason. Don't get me wrong, there are many good samples with a lot of variety. What I'm missing is a consistent library of articulations and different expressive elements, all sounding like they come from one group of players. I bought the props string refill way back when I bought reason, but it wasn't what I was looking for. It is heavy on string loops. It's samples are good, but it doesn't have a lot of variety.
I mainly use SR sounds for my strings now... well just about everything actually. So my thinking has been that this string refill would fill my need.

The original Miroslav library which we aquired was over $3,000. for formats like Akai, Giga, SampleCell, Kurzweil, Roland etc. We lowered the price in half for ILIO and all the Miroslav distributors.sghoughton wrote:Squids,

The Miroslav Philharmonik plug-in includes all of the orchestra PLUS the choir library (which was over $700 itself) and that will be only $499. (so that's clearly the best deal you'll get for Miroslav material by far).
The Mini Miroslav was a light version of the whole orchestra. It was pretty good actually. It sold for $395 but we'd sell if for less if we ported it over to Reason. We actually have a bunch of stock left of it in quite a variety of formats but once thing we might do is port it over to popular formats out today. We'll see. But, I can see that Reason users would definitely benefit from it.
