To build your own sample sets, get sfz and a text editor.
http://www.rgcaudio.com/sfz.htm
http://www.rgcaudio.com/sfzformat.htm
(Don't panic if the second page is hard to take in!)
If you need content, see the sticky post at the top of this forum. Or do as Hellbilly says and get CM (then pop over to my site and grab the sfz format mappings
).
Or just get some soundfonts to play with (in sfz).

CyberFree does not sound as clean as SFZ; however, it does have an intuitive GUI and the best loop point editor of any freebie Ive seen. Once you have identified good loop points (in terms of sample count), you then have the option of porting it to SFZ textual format.
Helios is another freebie option; dead simple to use but not many options.
I assume when you say "make my strings long" you mean setting loop points?

can you download direct from computer music website i.e ds404 as well as string patches from the same website?

No, you have to buy the magazine. everything is on their DVD that comes with the mag each month.carlos wrote:can you download direct from computer music website i.e ds404 as well as string patches from the same website?
It's well worth the purchase as it comes with about 2gb's of samples each month and are very useable IMO.

Computer Music make some of their samples available through their FTP site, and even some update patches for their software are on the FTP site. However, you can't get a full, installable version of DS404 from the FTP site. They want you to buy the magazine to get that.
Here's the FTP site address:

exactly what I wanted to suggest - free, simple and very easy to use, but all the needed features for multsampling are therejasonf wrote: btw what about cyber free sampler? im @ work and havnt tried it yet. can i make my strings long enough with it?

but if you are willing to pay very little money for a very feature rich sampler (including beat slicer, support for vst-fx and Soundfont import) you can of course buy it's successor
