i know you prob know about Black Flag/Minor Threat and the countless bands that immitate that sound. Just because it hasn't really been mentioned yet, what about Lenny Dee / Old School Omar Santana or all of the digital hardcore stuff (Atari Teenage Riot)? Do you listen to any freeform? or is that what you're trying to get away from?

just making sggetions

Lenny Dee and his "Industrial f**king Strength" albums,

What's really messed up about Lenny Dee is that he was a producer that used to work with Art Baker on old rap music albums. he supposedly helped out with the original recording of New Order's Confusion (not the cheezy Blade remix). Now that's what i call extremely messed up. especially if you hear the music he's put out over the past decade. he's actually a decent producer in his own right. he just dedicated his life to insipidly dark music. still, check it out if you haven't. but you probably know about him anyways.

also check out - B.C. Kid
DJ Vibe-Raider
Noize Junkie
S.C.U.M
909 Abuse/303 Abuse
The Berzerker (not the gary numan album)
Kenny Gee
DJ Fistfuck
Sonic Overkill
Biochip C.
2000 Maniacs
Creepozoids

there's some oldschool Hardcore (up to 250, even 300 bpm tracks). Crazy electronic early 90's stuff from europe. Some of that may apeal to you. maybe not.

Ooh, ooh, it must be my turn to chip in then.

When my musical mood swigns to the heavy side I tend to listen to (in no particular order)

the berserker
Meshuggah (chaosphere or destroy erase improve)
Dimmu Borgir
Anorexia Nervosa
Goatwhore
skinless
sunn 0)))
neurosis
HALO
Godflesh
Swans
Merzbow
facial mess
big black (especially songs about f**king)
cradle of filth
soilent green
today is the day
atari teenage riot/alec empire/DHR stuff
Navicon Torture Technologies

and when i cant find something new that is horrible enough, i make my own and post it into the void of the music cafe...

that is all... for now

woo hoo that's my favorite Big Black album

maybe even one of my favorite albums of all even

lately I can't stop listning to Frances the Mute by The Mars Volta. One of the best heavy albums i've heard in many many years, i'm in love with it

ok, i'm clued right out of the media world, so feel free to flame me if The Mars Volta are commerical or trendy or something. I can't keep track anymore, but I love the CD very much

I like everything of theirs that I have heard.

But then I like old Rush, too, from time to time. So what do I know??

My mom HATES the Mars Volta.

She says Omar should have quit after ATDI split up.

But then her favorite album is Slayers "God Hates Us All" so what does she know?

Post

see, my mom was just the opposite, she heard the mars volta stuff first, then went back to the at the drive in and the other band they split into (cant remember the name).

moms, go figure

Post

i don't think there a single piece of music in the whole world that both my mom and i groove on

The other band was Sparta.

Not a big fan, but not against them either.

Mom, on the other hand, will not hear the name. She goes ballistic. "Derivative Crap....lame song structures....GODAMMIT WHO DO THEY THINK THEY ARE???"

Veins popping...red-faced with fury.

She makes me uncomfortable when she gets like that.

Post

you guys have cool moms

my mom is cool too, but really she's waaaay too old for any of this kinda crap. Benny Goodman is 'that new fangled youth music' to her ears, and she thinks the sound of bebop means the world is about to end

Post

I love the way this has gone from songs to vibe your anger to... to moms. muwahahahahah

Yeah, my moms getting up there (dont tell her i said that), but then again, so am I.

Although I may have pushed her to the edge when i played her one of the last tracks i posted in the cafe.. turns out she has a phobia of dentist drills...

@ Herodotus: haha, when moms get on that "derivative crap" roll, its hard to calm them back down.
