I decided to go for Reason reasonably soon after getting into Tracktion. I loved Tracktion's sequencing layout but wanted a nicer selection of instruments (even though T2 will supposedly come with a nice selection of 3rd-party plugs, I'm not overly keen on them from just looking at the list). I think NNXT is fantastic, and I like the RV7000 for effects, so I've found that Re-Wiring Reason to Tracktion works quite well for me. I've been playing around with the 20-min demo so long now that I miss not having a full copy.
Having not been a Reason user, I can't really say the lack of updates has been a problem. The only area I can see needing massive improvement is the sequencer which makes anything other than 4/4 "Ooomf-tish, Ooomf-tish, Ooomf-tish, Ooomf-tish..." style music somewhat hard. But that's where Tracktion's more open-ended sequencing comes in.
