To explain this a little bit more, FilterscapeVA's 2 main oscillators work with a new concept. It's based on a geometric approach, i.e. the waveforms are rather "drawn" dynamically than precalculated. As this would introduce aliasing, they are afterwards resampled for bandlimiting.

On the plus side you get pretty aliasing free, brilliant sounding waveforms without the need to oversample and at a reasonable cpu usage. On the con side, they are not suited for super fast pitch modulation (i.e. fast envelopes on the tuning *does* introduce aliasing artifacts.

However, FM (OSC1 -> OSC2, below the display), HardSync and RingModulation are taken into account when bandlimiting the oscillators, but only to a degree that I think is reasonable for a software synthesizer. Thus, FM between two very "rich" waveforms like Sawtooth sounds shitty, but using the Sine Stacks or the Ripple waves is just fine for weird audio rate modulations.

Patches to try:

"FM Sync Lead" - FM and Sync combined. Try the ModWheel for the right effect...

"The Punch In Your Face" - This is FM, the Filterscape way

"Overblown" - Thank god the envelope is fast, FM on Sawtooths for the transient

"Sharp Ice" - A subtle wavetable move, subsidized by eq

"Noise Pluck" - Completely different, very organic, no oscillators, only Filter Resonance

"The Big Analogy" - No tricks, just see what the eq does...

And, as always, FilterscapeVA wants a Filterscape afterwards, if only for a little delay...

Cheers,

;) Urs

Between 12 and 24 hours from now. Promised. Depends on how many beers I manage to slurp and - most of all - when. Ah, I go downstairs to the pub now (which I've been saying to myself for over an hour...)
Got a nice hang over, so make it 24 rather than 12 :-o

Well, looks like a false alert. A certain outdated version of a certain host screwed it up ;)

I couldn't get any of these plugs to work in the cakewalk VST wrapper. I am using Sonar 3. The gui is blank, then sonar crashes.

I think I am addicted to "mod wheeling" in VA... is there a support group for this, have I simply stumbled across a latent desite to be a scratching DJ, or am I a simpleton too easily amused by the moving line in the snapshot wheel?

This should work.

However, if the screen remains blank, then there is probably a setup problem with the filestructure (shouldn't necessarily crash though...). Does the "uhe_data" folder sit next to Filterscape.dll?

I'll forward this to the beta group, maybe they can shed some light into this.

Cheers,

;) Urs

VA FS and Q6 work fine in Sonar 4 PE for me in p4 2.4 WinXP SP2. It should run as a regular DXi insert. If not, try configurng in instrument mode then inserting into an audio track as a DXi synth?

Urs
I'll check that out. Thanks.

Yeah...having no problems so far in Sonar 4 PE.

Jajajaja... my shitty hang over... I'm going to Photoshop now to remove a certain "129". Will decide spontaneously.

At least, I have decided to be too lazy to make it an extra license for Windows pre-order. It will be a general price reduction for 3 or so weeks (thus I don't have to upload a new version today :hihi: ).

Cheers,

;) Urs
