Let's just leave it at this: If you have to ask "why" then it's not for you. :P

PearPC allows Mac OS X (and Darwin and Linux-PowerPC) to run under Windows XP. It is free and open source. While it is still early in development it is progressing rapidly.

I don't have a copy of OS X so I haven't been able to try it and I'm a little reluctant to drop $129 at this point. But it might be fun to play with Darwin and see how fast it is. I would be interested to see how audio apps run under PearPC.

os9 was a better musicmaking system to me than osX is. :?

Darwin runs natively on x86 processors. OSX does not. OSX is not Darwin. Darwin is an open source Unix flavour adapted by Apple, based on FreeBSD. OSX is a collection of software (Aqua, iApps, etc) and technologies (Quicktime, Quartz, etc) that run on top of Darwin.

It's sort of similar to how Win95 ran on top of DOS. Except that Darwin is much, much cooler. 8)

I'm familiar with what Darwin is. My interest in it at this point is to guage the speed of PearPC. I'm reluctant to buy Mac OS X simply to test the speed of PearPC although the reports are very encouraging. Hopefully PearPC will be fast enough to be useable with audio applications.

I've heard this before, but I'm curious why. I know OS 9 lets nearly all system resources go to one application. Just curious.

braj .. the thing with os9 was that it was way easier to troubleshoot. osX is a huge and complex beast, and in my opinion its quite picky. to be exact: i´m on osX since 1,5 years, and these 1,5 years were full of troubleshooting. i reinstalled osX more often than in 6 years os9. (sounds like my windows friends)

logic os9 was stable and fine for me, logic osX scares the schnitzel out of me.
(not to mention this lame AU format)

I actually prefer OS X to OS 9, because my experiences were absolutely the opposite of yours putte.

same here
many years using os9, and i do not even remember reinstalling the OS once. Great simple music-proof OS.

I guess to each his own. OS 9 was a total nightmare for me. I can't remember how many times I reinstalled. In OS X, I reinstall when I want to. I haven't needed to, yet.

Ok. Sorry, I think I misinterpreted your original post. :?
