whenever i export my songs from cubase sx 2 as WAV or mp3 they come out much quieter than when playing them in sx..!?!

it's a pain to try to guess the added volume and what if that causes artifacts?
does anyone know a way to make it export tracks at the same level you hear them in sx??
maybe it's doing some normalization that i don't know of or something?

it does nothing such to your tracks. but in what software do you play the exported audio back? Are you using the same driver?

i've tried WMP 10 - winamp 5.08 - and wavelab...
the volume is definately lower than what i hear within cubase..

EDIT - oh yes.. you could be right.. let me see if wavelab uses ASIO..

I believe cubase exports at -3db by default.

Just look at the meters in cubase, if those are at 0dB and the exported audio file is at -3dB, you know.

as far as i know, export in cubase does NOT change volume - just try this for yourself; export your track and import it back to cubase and check it out.

Do remember that WMP and winamp and all those kinds of audio / music players goes through the windows volume mixer as well.

edit: I've checked now. Amplitude is not in any way altered during export.

I don't think anyone has. What people do have is playback volume differences in different softwares.

yeah i think so too - i actually just read a long thread from another forum where people exported/re-imported audio files from Cubase and did the invert-phase on the imported version to see if there was any difference, this mini test is well easy to do and from the thread I was reading, the guy who tested it did the same thing in different PCs with different audio card and all, and as expected, everything cancelled out perfect. This was actually to prove that differences in audiocards do not play any role in Cubase export function...

There can be slight differences between hosts. The latest test I've done revealed that what one host calls -6.0 dB is actually called -6.02 dB according to another. For simplicity half the volume is called -6dB some times. Its close but not exact. And some hosts have different results when they have to re-sample from 44 to 48 kHz or the other way around.

Say Stephancrs, did you have the chance to look at those rendered files I sent you last week?

Yeah, I did hear a difference but I'm not really sure what is causing the difference. I will do some research.
