okay, good point. I am familiar with at least some of their stuff, plus I saw Bob on the Brits. Admittedly that's probably not enough expossure to sum up their entire output and deem them as shite, but it was enough to make me feel safe that I wasn't missing much.

Ehr ... who is Garth Brooks?xoxos wrote:this is why dogs don't respect people, because the people don't respect the dogs because they don't know who garth brooks is.
When I was younger I used to be in doubt. These days I'm not so sure.

They are. It's just that they are full with great but not billboard/top20/hitlist art. Or are you only into visual arts equavilent to radio hits?Manc Chris wrote:Yep, as Cron says, its more to do with the phrase.
So much great stuff out there that is doomed never to be heard because it was "before my time". I mean, if that principle applied to visual art then the car boot sales would be choc full of Picasso's and Rembrandts!
Most people know of lots of old music. But unless it fits their actual interest in music, it will be hits that they know of.

I mean, this is ok for the run of the mill office worker to spout as a reason for ignorance, but musicans? No.
Basically, these people need to go look up the dictionary definition of the word 'record'.
but what if it is before your time?
if you never heard it how can you judge it?

n. rec·ord (rek erd)
An account, as of information or facts, set down especially in writing as a means of preserving knowledge.
Something on which such an account is based.
Something that records: a fossil record.
Information or data on a particular subject collected and preserved: the coldest day on record.
The known history of performance, activities, or achievement: your academic record; hampered by a police record.
An unsurpassed measurement: a world record in weightlifting; a record for cold weather.
Computer Science.
A collection of related, often adjacent items of data, treated as a unit.
Law.
An account officially written and preserved as evidence or testimony.
An account of judicial or legislative proceedings written and preserved as evidence. The documents or volumes containing such evidence.
------
Wow! It's all so clear to me now...
I can now (with confidence) hit that ominous little button on my four-track that has the little red dot on it...
I make art... How come nobody knows about me???

Taking that stance, couldnt it be argued that you should learn your music theory since it pertains to yer "art"? I know you were very against learning music theory in a previous thread..Manc Chris wrote:Breaking out of another thread, how crap is it when you here people say "Oh THAT band/musician/song?, Well I wouldn't know, it was before my time".
