I know what you mean - 'fairytale' sounds nice and is a good word to describe part of what I think is special about my music - thanksluCiPHer wrote:i just saw this thread now, you know i listen to your stuff
personally i think the percussion is the strong part of the track, and i like that it's edgy
not my favourite of yours, i kind of miss the beauty in this one, usually you have some sort of contrast in your songs, in this one everything is high energy and edgy, there are no fairytale-melodies and no soft vocals.
still quite nice musically, just not as emotionally grabbing.
and i have to agree, vocals are a bit loud, not way too loud, but loud.
but however it's of course in there as well - I just wanted to make some kind of 'boomier' mix but I probably exaggerated it a bit
I'd call the style of this song 'electro-rock'

I'll pass the compliment on to herArmadillo wrote:Starts out really well. Powerful, controlled and confident vocals. Me like. Squarewave at 0.57 min. is waaay too old school for my taste, especially as you consider the drums have a quite new sound to them. Phat bass line at 1.53 min.![]()
Drums really cool as well apart from the hihat/percussion (16th). They are a bit too static.
But definately one of the best vocals I've heard on KVR (I don't care much for male vocals tbh.) She sounds really mature, in a good sense.
The song ends a bit abrupt though. Took me by surprise.
I'm gonna work on the solo sound - I wanted to use a classic sound because the way I play the solo is kinda oldschool as well - but maybe I'm better off mixing the old with something new here... - thanks!

thanks, Hans!HansM wrote:This song has a great groove and very strong vocals. The rythm feels good, and is varied as well, and the drums and bass really drive the song, giving the singer space to do her job. With her strong voice you have a very good combination. It would be nice to have the vocals always clear in the mix, to understand the lyrics. Right now I wasn't sure if the lyrics are in Deutsch or in English, except for the high mountain and the deep ocean.
IMO there is room for improvements, if you're going to work on this again. The strong panning from the intro could be used again later in the song. (If it already is, I missed it). That would give a sense of recognition and even more unity. And as Armadillo said, the lead sound at 1.10 doesn't sound very powerful, maybe you could combine the harsh lead from the intro there. I'll leave it to experts to respond to the mix, it's sounds a bit bass-heavy to me, and I'd love to hear the vocals clearer.

well, it seems I have to put more work into this - the sound from the beginning appears again later in the song on so the problem is the bad mix again...
b.t.w.: strange that no-one seems to be able to understand the lyrics - for me it sounds very clear but that's probably because I know what she sings...
I'm will try to boost around 900hz - let's see if that
solves the issue...

thanks again for your suport, Georg!Klemperer wrote: I think you should definitely go on (hey you need my advice for this, I'm sure) with this MUCH going on in the songs, that makes them very good. So it might be a bit of a problem to get the vocals right in the mix if you don't want them to be heard like an instrument alone.
Fine work! There is a special Jens-style, and I like it.
the truth is I can't stop to stack several melodies on each other and I can't stop to add several breaks to each song - if I don't do it it sounds boring. lifeless and incomplete to me
I'd love to do it once just for the fun of it but every time I try it I end up stuffing more and more things to it...

I said it was catchy and nice job. I've just listened again, so here is a bit more constructive feedback. I guess what I mean is *to my ear* there is not enough variation between parts. For example, the part at 0:25 and the part at 0:41. The only significantly different part is the one at 1:37-2:00 and it incorporates similar themes as the other parts.Jens wrote:no real hook?mn wrote:Well done. Good job.- I think the music is buried too deep between the groove and the vocals - the guitar-riffs are quite catchy I think
I think what I'm trying to say is it sounds like almost all chorus, with a few breaks but no real counterpoint or verse that is distinctly different from the chorus. The 1:37 part seems like a middle 8 transition to me.
I'm not saying I can do any better, I'm just saying the difference in parts was very subtle and I didn't recall anything that stayed with me right off - i.e. "a hook". That's not meant as criticism, a LOT of music here including the little I've posted also fits that bill. I actually meant "this is quite close to being VERY catchy but for these elements."
