Since we had great success with the downloadable Celesta (still for sale) I have now created a downloadable Crotales patch which included hits and bowed crotales. This is full 2 octave set of Zildjian crotales and the hits have two velocities. The patch unzipped is 103 megs. My paypal account is my email address donnie@donniechristianstudios.com Just please write if you want the Crotales or the Celesta (or both for $45.00).

The hits also have mod wheel controlled hand mute release triggers!

I also respectfully ask that if you do not have anything to say about this download please do not post. This is a professional board so let's please act that way. I have worked very hard to get everyone taken care of and Frank who was the last one was taken care of on Tuesday.

Thanks!

Donnie

Crotales Mini-Review

These crotales are quite beautiful and have a lovely sparkle and ringing sound. Most of Donnie's demos sound pretty amazing to me but the Crotales demo doesn't quite do them justice. The level of the demo is very low making it hard to hear what the actual samples sound like. The volume of the samples themselves are also just a tad low (for my taste) but the samples are pristine and so cleanly recorded there is no problem raising levels up. Most likely, these were recorded at a lower volume so as to have headroom to capture the crisp sound of attacks.

Donnie also uses two tiers of volume levels for each group which makes for an interesting and spontaneous performance effect. Adjusting these for smooth even playback is no problem (and Donnie has already created patches such patches). However, the smooth velocities I made don't quite have the same realistic sounding performance effect - it requires a bit more conscious "random" control to achieve the sound of spontaneity.

The bowed crotales is an interesting effect not unlike fingered wine glasses. I found it interesting to combine these with the regular crotales which creates a rather unique bowed sustain effect.

Donnie is quite conservative with his ranges and I was able to stretch these for an almost 2-1/2 octaves playable range.

Overall these are very beautiful and I highly recommend them.
