FL studio BAD latency

I'm using M-audio audiophile 2496 and M-audio keystation 88. My ASIO latency is set to 5 ms. It works great in SX, actualy perfect, but there is huge problem in FL STUDIO. Latency is MUCH higher - it's imposible to play on outside keybord thru MIDI. I'm using the same ASIO driver & settings!

I also tried ASIO4ALL and it's the same.

I tried different instruments and synths and it just doesn't work. Latency in FL is at least 100 ms!

I'm using SX 2.0 and FL 5.0.1

Can anyone help?

Post

have u choosen the asio driver in FL (AudioSettings)?
Close Cubase before starting FL - because Asio Driver can only be used buy one program at a time.

Post

The last time I checked out a FL demo (ver 4) I was using the generic direct drivers in my laptop and getting 20ms easily.

It must be a problem in your set up.

Post

to get sound without any crackles u have to set the
buffer size to about 4000 - which results in approx 100 ms
latency

looks like reading the manual helps

People, you got it wrong. If you say I got my latency to 20ms, taht means IT SAIS you got it, right? But do you? That's my case! It sais 5 ms (it's a good sound card) but you can hear it's at leat 100!

In SX everything works fine.

Telling me about closing one app to start the other to release ASIO driver is for absolute beginers. I'm in bussines for over 10 years and I know a lot about computer & audio, but this is something I'm stuck with.

Why is it working with every app i have, just not FL? That's the point. :)

FLS and M-Audio Firewire with midi input keyboard working fine here. Check out your audio settings, especially how the keyboard is set up in FLS, got a feeling your getting latency off your keyboard not the app.

1 1/2 years in the buisness and will be just as clueless in 10 years as I am now, and loving every minute that I learn something new.
The armchair is more than the sum of the bastards

To be absolutely clear...

1) Press F10
2) Select Audio Settings
3) 'Output panel' shows an 'ASIO' driver is selected? There may be more than one, have you tried them all?
4) 'ASIO Properties' - 'ASIO Panel' shows a latency of 5 ms?
5) Mixer settings are -

Sample rate - 44,100 Hz
Interpolation - Linear

Is this so?

Carb.

If you know so f**king much about computers what are you doing around here looking for advice?

I just love it when assholes like you ask for advice and then chastise people for trying to help out because you already know so much.

f**k off!

In Fl Studio, go to the audio settings and uncheck "reset plugins on transport". You should get a better latency now.
Play it by ear

wait, so the keyboard i'm using (cheapest Yamaha that Best Buy sells) could be slowing down my latency?
Ideas are bulletproof... I am not.

Ive tried to post on this issue before (using a cheap "keyboard with speakers" as a midi controller, and got a few responses that the latency should remain the same. However, I am still looking to hear it from a hundred people, so i can believe it fully.

Ive used it before though, and it SOUNDS the same as my microKorg, which should be efficent as a Kontroller

however, i cant get midi thru to work : (i would like to, maybe i have to go through the microkorg manual with a finer tooth comb

maybe ure doing music since 10 years - does this mean u know everything?

I'm doing over 10 years computergraphics - i'd never say about myself that i know everything and when a new app is out i have to learn new things.

So go and check the audio settings like i (and some others here) told u. If FL says the latency is 5ms
than it is (almost)5ms. If it's still too much latency
than u should ask in Looptalk - i'm sure they'll help u there.

The reason why it works in other apps is that these apps automatically choose an asio driver - FL
doesn't - u can choose yourself.

Thanx guys for all the help!

I found out the problem - if anyone has the same one, this is it... the problem is only in FLstudio 5.0.1.
Version 5.0.2. works fine. So there is a bug in this version.

Another thing - I didn't want to turn out as an "ashole" and as "knowing all" guy. :) I was just trying to tell you, that I'm using this apps (FL & SX) for years and I know how to set up ASIO drivers. :)

I tried settings with both, M-audio & Asio4All drivers and it didn't help.

Another thing - there's a lot of discusions on boards out there (also on M-audio board) that ACTUAL latency difference from the one U have set up. If your latency is 5 ms, it doesn't mean that it really is. Check ABLETON LIVE settings - there's a good explanation, that this probably means 12 ms.

Thanx again!
