I am playing with the idea of using my laptop as a control/sound processor for my sound system.
If I wanted to retard my top speakers by say 1/10th of a second (approx) so that they would be in time with my folded bass horns (ie sound has to travel 3.2 meters round the horns so if I want my tops to be in time with my subs I have to either sit them 3.2m behind the subs OR delay the tops by 1/10th of a second and sit the tops directly on top of the subs),
does anyone know of a plug in that I could put in the signal chain in my software that would do this delay on my top speakers ?

What software are you using? I don't know how you'd do it since I don't know what you use, but I'd send the signal to a delay set so it only outputs a wet signal, a single delay set at 10ms (?). You'd have to look for a delay plugin that'd do that (I don't know, maybe your software has a native plugin that'll do it), but it shouldn't be too hard.

Ok, yes I had wondered if I could maybe do it with a simple delay, I am using ableton live, latest version, I will have a play with the built in delay and see if that will do it. Thanks, Alan.

10ms is cool. 100ms is way outta time.
Unless you can accurately model your crossover in software, it'd be best to do your delay processing post-crossover. That usually means hardware.
Couldn't you just move your horns three meters back?

Voxengo has some free plug'ins that could help you out for sure. Here: http://www.voxengo.com/freevst/ Try the Audio Delay plug-in. That's exactly what you're looking for, actually. 
Also, EnergyXT could be the host to do it right, it's got best routing there is, modular architecture... IMHO

Actually, I am not exactly sure how much time delay, you are probably right that it is 10ms, yes I have been sitting my top boxes further back but I would prefer to be able to sit them directly on top of the subs if I can and I would much rather be able to use software than hardware ?

Oh, sorry, I thought you were on PC and I'm not that familiar with Mac VST plug-ins.
Cheers anyway! Hope you'll find something similar to Voxengo's plug-in and btw. I think it can be set up in your host, but it depends upon which host you're using. Logic should be capable of doing that.

I think I can do it with live's built in simple delay, I didn't realize it could be that easy, have yet to test it on the pa but I can't see why it won't work, I can simply specify the amount of delay in miliseconds and just turn the parameter off and it should work fine I guess ?
