wsup folks, can you tell me specificly if the audio editing in acid pro 5 is destructive or non-destructive?

does acid have some kind of self contained file saving scheme, so that when you save a project it can make copies of all of the files associated with the project?

yes , it's called "acd-zip" (at least in v4 , but i doubt that it has changed in v5).
it packs all the used wavs together with the project file into a sort of zip file which you can re-open again in acid .
