Kontakt 2's Convolution Reverb

Does anyone know if Kontakt 2's Convolution Reverb can be used as a general effect on basic audio tracks (or tracks with different soft synths)?

I know that some of the other NI products allow you to use their soft synth effects as general effects (e.g., Pro-53) so that you aren't limited to processing just the NI sounds.

I've been checking out Voxengo's Pristine Space, and I know Gigapulse will finally arrive sometime in April, but if the Kontakt IR verb is good and can be applied universally, I could save some $$$...

You could also consider Elevayta ConvoBoy - there's a free version. And there's a simplified Pristine Space in the Audioflux bundle, and a less simplified PS on it's way. Of course, there's also SIR.

BTW, welcome to KvR. Or has your post count dropped all the way to 1 ;)

don't forget revolverb - a zero latency convolution plugin - which works on AMD platforms, even though the web page says it doesn't. :-o

Thanks guys for the responses. (yes cptgone I'm a newbie to posting, 'tho I've been reading the KVR posts for the past couple of years now).

You two seem pretty knowledgeable on this subject--how do you stock your IRs? It seems there are three ways to go about it: 1) purchase a program with stock IR presets; 2) purchase a program with no loaded IR presets but purchase a third party set of IRs; 3) purchase a program with no loaded IR presets, and scour the web for free goodies.

How have you approached this? Obviously I want to limit how much I spend, but most important to me is the quality of the sound.

Thanks again...

I've only tried free ones yet. There are many about, like Line6 Pod IRs!
Also, you can use any wav file! Of course, not for straightforward reverb - unless you record your own IRs...

Many people here love the Kaleidoscopy and whatsit called again collection of weird IRs.

Some plugs have built in IRs, like the Audioflux convolution plug.

It's the strangest thing: Of all their plugs, Kontakt has the most useful, all-purpose set of effects - and it's the only NI plug-in that you can't use as an FX insert!?!!

Everyone's always been a little mystified by that.
