i am an experienced reason user, and am comfortable with most sequencer vocabulary etc., but i was just wondering;
besides constantly asking questions on forums such as these or hiring a tutor,
how can i quickly get to know new programs such as cubase and pro logic? are there websites offering help or tutorials? plug ins etc. are foreign to me and i dont know where to start..... :?

Igloo, just a quick correction...it's not pro logic, it's just Logic.

As for an answer to your question, the best way is to download the manuals. Cubase manuals are available at ftp.steinberg.net. I know it's a drag to read manuals, but it's really the best way to learn these tools, and both can be tricky. Logic doesn't offer the manuals online, but there are plenty of websites that do offer tutorials. Understanding logic seems to take most folks a little bit more time, but once you get going, you should be fine. Hope this helps.

Try these... Both good! ...Then get a book! Especially with Logic, you need to at least read the chapter on the enviroment...

Another vote for the Cubase manual here. Just go through it, make sure you understand it, try to memorise what functionality there is you are likely to need.

Some mags like CM often do tutorials, maybe you can find some on the SOS site (all copies are online, the older ones for free).

try askvideo they have three tutorials CDs on Cubase SX 3.

thanks to all for your help; if only i could read....(joke)

i moved from reason to cubase sx and found sx a doddle to use its all common sense really especially if you already know how to use reason , as for learning curves ? i didn't notice one.
what you don't realise is by learning reason you've learn't all the hard part , so once you learn how to hook up a synth to a midi track its all plain sailing from there on.

You can buy a video tutorial for Logic.

I started off with Logic Audio Discovery v1. That was years back, but I dont regret.

Once you learn Logic everything else like Cubase & Sonar seems hard, beleive me!

If your prospects are to conjure up a career in the "Pro" music industry then best to begin with Logic.

Its working protocol is very efficent and you dont even need to "stop"!!! the music to pull up a plugin or start recording unlike the (please correct me if Im wrong) experience I've had with Sonar & Cubase.

As mentioned earlier, the Video tutorial! This will help you get started and making music in no time.

Take Care.
