hallo ...

as i´m in the process finding a deal at the moment with my new demo*, my man floff (he manages thse things for me) got a reply via mail from an "important" person at one of the major companies. (i won´t´name it as it wouldnt be fair to the person who wrotes that mail.)

i dont post this here to "show off", but rather cause this mail proves to me what i think about the totally f**ked up music industry: cowards with no ass in their trousers.

"thank you very much for sending me putte´s new demo. i have to say that i didnt listen to such beautiful songs for quite some time. his name is also familiar to me as it got around when i worked for Sony. but at that time i didnt see the commercial potential, though i found it special .... i do think that putte could be marketed succesfully, and his homepage shows that he even attracts people from coming all over the world. though i dont think that our company is the right label, cause we´re rather conservative.
i for one could imagine putte singing in german, it would take him out of the competition with international acts."

thats a translation of the mail .. and i left out some rather uninteresting parts.

well, it actually kicks me even more now, so back to the music.

*: my demo is really rather commercial, with songs like "music makes me love people" and new songs going into this direction. so this time its really not about "good stuff, but it wont sell". (in my opinion at least).

yes, thats at least a big point.

.. and the funny thing is that that person has no clue how it´d sound IF i´d sing in german. so that person is talking about something that doesnt exist. wow, no?

thats a good plan, krims. i am certainly not the type of person who likes to have enemies, but in this artist VS. industry thingie its appropriate for me to know having an enemy.

here goes another little story that happened 2 weeks ago. a good friend of my man floff is the boss of one of germanies major companies. he visited stuttgart, and floff arranged that we have some beers together. i warned floff that its possible that i do a rant when i drank enough, but as he knows me he said "if you feel to do so then do".

so it happened that we met him when i was already slightly drunk, and after the "hello" i asked him

"did you listen to my new demo?"
him: "yes putte, but you know, my companie´s strategy doesnt fit to your music so ..."

i interrupted him and said "wait, i just asked what do you think about the music".

him "well, you know, my company .."

i interrupted him again and said "I ASKED ABOUT THE f**king MUSIC! NOT ABOUT YOUR f**king STRATEGY!"

well, and then my rant started. i said "know what? you guys in that industry are cowards with number and figures in mind. its NOT about the music, and you know it. dont take it personally, but you´re just f**king cowards with no ass in your fine bluejeans!" ..

..

all he then said was something like "hey man, i have to feed 500 people!" ..

i did admit that i´m ranting cause i´m somehow frustrated, and while i rant i knew it wouldnt help a single thing. but it felt great to finally have a person like him standing there releasing all that frustration in one quick strike ..

.. yes, that was a tiptop superfeeling!

Thats strange, the newsletter i got was in Latin, but i had it translated into German so i couldnt read it in two languages.

I think they want you to look like Tocotronic or some millions of similar

? At least that's the way most of the people try to look over at Friedrichshain(Berlin) or Schanzenviertel (Hamburg) before someone even tells them... So nobody would talk like you did (and I did at a "big" publisher once

with big success), and they would not even know what they are...certainly not better than those record-label-you-know-Putte-don't-take-it-blabla...people...(well not all of them are this way obviously).

You are not allowed to SHOW that you are lucky sometimes, Putte...you must look bored and sad on the fotos, but then talk in a way they call "ironical" and bash anyone who is really sad one second in his life...
Arrrrrrrrrrrggggggggghhhhhhhhhh....

Anyway, Tocotronic are angry now because even if they looked like you have to for the company they don't sell as they want to (they call some who sell more and do NOT do worse music ARSCHGESICHTER

all of their time).

Last year a friend of mine had contact with a "major". They wanted him to make a radio-song, he worked 2 months, after those weeks nobody knew anymore what they had said to him (he thought he could believe them after their mails and so on).
