Hey guys, I'm not sure if this is the right forum for this question but it would be a really easy question to answer for anyone using Guitar Rig in Sonar 4.

I can't get it to work, and I'm sure it's a user issue. Guitar Rig works fine when it's not running in Sonar. In fact if I run Guitar Rig and THEN start Sonar, it doesn't work.

Guitar Rig doesn't see any input, and therefore no output either.

How do I setup Guitar Rig to work inside Sonar? I've gone through the manual for both Guitar Rig and Sonar, and I can't figure it out.

Anybody? Please. =(

Cyprus quoth Guitar Rig works fine when it's not running in Sonar. In fact if I run Guitar Rig and THEN start Sonar, it doesn't work.

What are you actually doing to insert it into Sonar? Have you installed the Dxi version or the VSt. If the VST, has it been registered by the adaptor? Are you inserting it as an effect on an audio channel or what?
How are you trying to use it? Playing audio or synths through it, or are you trying to record its sound 'live' ???

What do you mean by 'if I run Guitar Rig and THEN start Sonar, it doesn't work'; are you trying to run them at the same time? Your soundcard may not allow more than one application access at a time...

Hey, a reply! Thanks for the reply, I really do appreciate it.

All I'm doing is adding Guitar Rig as a VST instrument. I go into Sonar > Insert > DX > NI > Guitar Rig
and it starts that way.

It's definitely been registered by the VST adapter, so I know that's not it.

I have a RME Fireface 800 sound card and I'm just using the instrument input on that. So I just plug my guitar straight into that. It works fine as long as I'm not in Sonar, if I start Guitar Rig as a standalone program everything is cool.

And again, when running Guitar Rig as a VST there is no response on the Input or Output meter that it has. BUT, Sonar can record my guitar perfectly fine as long as I bypass Guitar Rig. It's only when I start Guitar Rig and try running it through that that it doesn't work.

So I know it's an issue with Sonar, well actually the issue would be with me not knowing what the hell I'm doing.

So ANY help would be sooooooo greatly appreciated.

You DON'T insert it as an instrument- you insert it as an effect. Right click on the fx bin of the audio track and insert it there.

I don't have guitar rig or sonar....but I do have (not installed) home studio 2002....have tried right clicking the fx box on an audio channel and selecting it there...sorry if this was just a stupid suggestion...

If its been registered as an instrument, instead of an effect, Sonar may not be passing audio to it at all. In which case, try rerunning the adaptor, then when its built the list of effects and synths, select Guitar Rig, and change it from a DXi to a DX effect. Also, check the box that allows tempo-synching.

Im pretty sure I had the demo working without any problems in S4 at all.

The DXi routine doesn't make any difference as long as it's being used as an insert effect, WR- Sonar will pass audio to it. After all, you have to register any effect that receives MIDI as a DXi.
