Sounds familiar Rob and Hellbilly.

Of the people who think they are doing better stuff now, is it because you have a relatively static "core" set up that you begin with: e.g. a template or set of common "reach-for" instruments that you use for bass, drums, synth lines etc?

Does this way of working create a useful sense of partial limitation when it comes to the fundamentals of the song-writing process and then you add the "icing" to that using more idiosyncratic or track-specific choices on top?

I would be interested to hear your thoughts.
