I remember when i had a guitar i could just lightly lay a finger across all the strings on two certain frets and strum and get that Big Black sound, i used to love doing that... :hihi:

anyway, i dont have a guitar now, is there anyway to create that sound, or do you know of some samples?

up and down on both frets?

People copying old pedals. What a world, eh?

Any tinny, Telecaster-esque guitar should be able to do the trick - just need to keep the treble up and bass down, add lots of overdrive, a touch of slow detun-y chorus and a metallic slapback delay, then just pick any old fret and ka-ching!

I would, but im saving up for a months rent in advance, and a months rent deposit

...and i need a decent soundcard first, so the sample works out cheaper :hihi:

Ah, open string harmonics. Gotta love 'em!

12th fret - 1st harmonic
7th fret - 2nd harmonic
5th fret - 3rd harmonic
... and many more

Acoustic or electric? If acoustic, nylon or steel? If I have some time maybe I can record a few. They're certainly nice, though I usually don't use all the strings, just say the top three or middle three. But the full strum is used nicely in the Heart song Barracuda (2nd and then 3rd or 4th harmonics).

Do you want an audio file or a soundfont?

don't forget the 15 sequential distortion pedals, for that proper Big Black sound.

I prob wouldnt use them actually, i just remember doing it a lot when i was in a band, and i heard it on another track the other day...just another one of my nostalgia moments i guess...

I just realized I should ask: what is "Big Black"? I was thinking of the generic open string harmonic sound, not something with lots of FX or anything specific to some band, player, or tune. If you can post a link to an MP3 clip that would help!

Post

OH, I just saw you say you could apply your own FX. OK, if I can get around to this, I'll use my 1965 Fender Jazzmaster. Would you want it clean (direct), or through my amp/cabinet sim (Genesis3)? If you have your own amp/cabinet sims clean would be the most flexible.

Thanks Topaz
Actually... I DO have a some harmonic samples somewhere from the same guitars and sessions from ManyStation. Thanks for reminding me. I will dig through my stuff and Make a Soundset up for ManyStation. Free of course ...I'll put it on the List for the user area.

Learjeff ... If you are interested in contributing some ... PM me ..perhaps we can work something out.
