midi playback in SX 2

hi,
i have had this problem for the longest time now.. probably since i started using SX -
i don't record midi in real time so i don't know if that's being effected.. i could check - but the problem is this - i input midi notes carefully and i hear my instruments with almost no latency until i hit play - then every midi note comes out about 1/8th note late.. :-(...
but here's where my problem may differ from others who post about this strangeness - when i record the midi'd intruments the audio then plays back totally in sync - no bad timing at all..!
i am so frustrated that i may not even work on my song until i find a solution for this.. :-(

i would greatly appreciate it if someone can relate a solution for me!!
thanks for your attention!

How are you inputting the notes? When you mention recording the midi intstruments, what do you mean?

Post

i am drawing the notes with my mouse - the midi instruments i refer to are my sh32 and nova laptop,,

What sound card are you using? Onboard sound from the laptop? If thats the case you need to get ASIO4ALL drivers and set SX to use those. Cubase was designed for an external midi input. You will find it hard going without one. Fruity loops and Reason are meant for laptops.

Are you using the asio driver that came with your soundcard?

UltraJv were there first
And we can take this huge universe and put it inside a very tiny head, you fold it.

it's not the latency - i am using the USB BCA2000 ASIO and i get fine latency monitoring audiop and playing VSTi's.. it's just when i try to trigger hardware i get this delay while playing back...

It may be emulated ports - You could try this : Go to the SX folder in your 'Program Files', find a folder called "midi port enabler", copy the file called "ignoreportfilter" into the main Nuendo directory and restart SX.

Post

already did that the other day - i've got the non-emulated ports selected now..

Then it may be a USB issue! (they are very common on here) Some work better than others with laptops. Its not a fault as such its a compatibilty issue. If you can use a PSU on the BCA2000 it might solve it, dont use the BCA with a hub. Some have to use another USB card to solve it.

hmmm.. you could be on to something there - it's not in my hub - it's in an onboard slot..
the other day my PCI USB card freaked out badly and i had to remove it..
i should be getting to bed now though i'm afraid - tomorrow is easter and there will be much rejoicing - then i'll throw that usb card back in and give that a go in the evening sometime = see you then - g'night!

ok - i've done something i should have done in the first place - i tried direct monitoring the signal and it turns out the midi is on time - it's latency within cubase..
the best i can get my BCA2000 to do right now is about 30ms output and 15ms input..
is this the delay i'm hearing?
the new USB/ASIO driver for the BCA should be out any day now.. maybe that will let me set it lower... :-\

i might be wrong, but it sounds like you keep on bringing up your audio latency.....this sounds like purely a midi problem. ive never had one. Ive used cubase sx and cubasis vst to record midi stuff off of my microkorg through the midi on my emu 0404, and than have played it back. No delay. maybe check the global or midi settings on your sh32? sometimes they might have a feature enabled, that when using it for different purposes could be bad and you have to turn it off, etc. Maybe go through the hardwares instruction books and look for it : (

naw - you see - the midi is getting there just fine and the devices are responding - it's all the ASIO latency in cubase.. :-\

I know what the problem is, it has to do with emulated drivers.

I'm going to search the net to find the solution for you.

I had the exact same problem and it drove me f**king crazy.

go here and follow these instuctions.

Once I did that and stopped using emulated drivers I was good to go.

good luck
