Cool. Because I don't know what Kingston's been smoking (I want some  ) but I've been dinking around with this demo for a few hours, and it's as killer as my UAD-1 Pultec Pro (well...ALMOST), but in a different way.

Show me a full mix (with complex bussed drums etc) with manual compensation that actually works. That's right, it's hell on earth.

What did I do now? I'm extremely critical about the lack of latency comp, that's all.

I actually LIKE the sound.

I just LOVE being attacked by fanboys... even the last hydratone thread turned into almost unanimous hype. I don't quite understand this. Let's summarise: buggy and sluggish UI with severe accuracy problems, a mandatory heavy and confusing runtime, a mixdown EQ that doesn't report latency (!!!), heavy CPU usage for an EQ, an OK (but new) EQ sound (with crap waveshaper slapped on top).

Just what the hell is all this fuss about? :x

No attacks, chief. Just kidding. You're the one waiting to attack, boss.

Fanboy?

I like it. Yes.

Gave this a quick try on a bass synth. What a horrifically sluggish interface. I have no idea as to the principles on which this EQ is based - more severe cuts introduce more high frequency distortion? No idea what's going on there and I don't really care. Perhaps trying it over a mix might give a better idea as to what all the fuss is about.
Every day takes figuring out all over again how to f#ckin’ live.

OK, I have to admit, I like the way it sounds over a mix. But this is just too sluggish and CPU hungry for me to use at the moment.

I'm just curious about what apps don't have ADC? I've had no problems concerning this with the demo. I just stick it in a track and forget about it and there's no delay/sync problems. Even so, I agree with Kingston on all the other points, even though I'm reading 6% CPU usage for one instance of the plugin on my P4 3.2GHz system. (I don't know if that's conisdered a lot for a system like mine).

Post

30-40samples isn't much of a latency, true. Untill you start mixing multitracked drums with complex bussing. One track goes out of sync, and everything goes straight to hell. Same applies to all time critical material.

I get around 5-6% CPU here as well on a similar system. It's about double the CPU usage of any track EQ to date. And it's gonna add up WAY too quickly. 10 instances of EQ is quite minimal on any busy project. That's 60% CPU for just mix EQ on the fastest systems available. You're all f**ked.

I wonder how much the Pluggo interface contributes to its CPU useage. I can see how not having to re-compile code constantly would have an advantage on the creative process, but what's stopping them from compiling the code in a "normal" fashion after all their algorithms are complete? It seems like the Pluggo interface could be used only for the coding process.

Not to go off-topic, but has anyone tried Valvetone on a bass guitar? Killer.

Post

I can't get valvetone to work here. :? I can hear the demo beep, but there's just no sound going thru it, or any processing happening, just mute.. :(

please, stop whining....

i suggest to everyone who haven't tried it yet - do it now!

Ok, I choose not to believe it's the "best sofware eq available." Thanks for the advice.

Post

just listen for yourself and come to your own conclusion that it's the best software eq ever.

Post

can someone clarify that if the eq does not "report latency" - is it still being automatically compensated for in a DAW such as Cubase SX 3?
