Hi! :)

I play in a band with no drummer... When we make demos, we use fruity loops to arrange drumtracks... We play incubus-3 doors down-type of music... But we are having trouble to find some real good drum samples... I want our drumtracks to sound like a real drums... :help: Where can i find these samples?? And are Fruity loops a good program to arrange drumtracks, or do you know of any better prog..??

Thanx

Hi,
You could do a lot worse than downloading NS Kit v7 http://naturalstudio.co.uk/nskit_download.html A very nice multisampled acoustic kit, and best of all, it's free :D

I use FLS 5.02 and it's excellent, but for drums, I use DR008 www.fxpansion.com coupled with Slicy/Fill-in Drummer from http://www.musiclab.com/products/sdr_info.htm They make a great combination :D

That said, I've just bought Jamstix http://www.rayzoon.com/ (won't have time to download it today  ) If you already have a drum vsti, like DR008, Battery, etc, Jamstix paired with that is truly superb.

If you're looking for a good all round selection of drum samples, have a look at Superdrums 8000 http://www.dorumalaia.com/order.htm This sample cd is a steal at the price :D
RIP Black Tom and Beckett. They weren't just cats, they were MY cats, the best cats ever.

Also look for Geoff Khan's Live Kit 7 - very nice-sounding kit.

Doru's samplesets are extensive but I find them far too much trouble to arrange into kits for playing. There's loads and loads of free samples on the site, too, so check them out if you've more patience than me!

I only use sfz for sample playback (or sfz+ if I need the extra features). Works nicely for drums.

I think the obvious choice for you guys would be BFD or DFHS if you're really interested in good live drum sounds. They're pricey but worth it. And no Fruity Loops probably isn't the best way to arrange drums, but what do I know, I actually went and learned how to notate drums the real way and I'm not sure if that's the best way either.
I'm sorry this post wasn't about techno.

Do you use a notation editor for midi sequencing?

I thought I was the only one!

Soundfonts are a good way to go! The only kit ever need is Guido Scognamiglio's ( http://www.soundfonts.it )Gold Drums.

There are loads of other kits at the 'HammerSound SoundFont Library' website.

Ehh...apologize if am stupid, but what is BFD and DFHS?? :?

They're soundware plugins. A sample library plus a front-end player.

Drumkits From Hell Superior (DFHS) can be found here: http://www.toontrack.com/superior.shtml

BFD can be found here: http://www.fxpansion.com/product-bfd-main.php

They are both similar in terms of features, so the big difference is sound. Listen to the mp3 demos and see which one you prefer.

Also, free kits aren't a bad idea. See if that process works out for you, and if it doesn't then seek out a drummer. Sequencing rock drums can be very hard, and I found that for me the only way was to learn how to play drums.

Some people sequence very well, and that's fine for them. For my particular style of music I find that the feel of real drums is important.
Excuse all the blood.

Hire a session drummer?

herodotus, yeah, I use the Staff view in Sonar to do all my drum sequencing. Frankly I don't understand how anyone can work using piano role views for drums, or Fruity like step sequencers. But what do I know? Perhaps we are the only ones...

when i write drum music sheets to use during the class/for my students to take home and practice I use proper music notations, but personally i find it easier/quicker to make this with pen & paper. when i'm making beats on PC though I find piano roll view hell of a lot easier/quicker to use though.

I usually play a phrase in and then edit in piano roll (as it's the best option Muzys has, unless I need to tweak the timings at tick level). I'm still learning drum tab and play drums on a keyboard, so the piano roll editor "makes sense" to me..!
