Thanks for any help!

At the top right, there's an icon called "filters". That's Tracktionese for "plugins". Drag this icon to the track you want, and your list of plug-ins will appear, including both synths and effects. All your VST plug-ins that are in your assigned path will appear here.
Not sure what you mean about the destination output list... if you want to HEAR it, you need to assign your destination output to your audio card, not to MIDI.
So, to recap:
1. Install your synth
2. Make sure that the 'plugins' section of the settings page, you've put the installation path of your synth, and that you've re-scanned so that Tracktion can see it.
3. Put your MIDI clip into a track
4. Drag the "filters" icon to the same track, and select your synth from the menu that appears
5. Make sure the track is outputting to your default audio, or you won't hear it.

I'll try all that as soon as I get home! but is there a special button in Tracktion for re-skanning.Make sure that the 'plugins' section of the settings page, you've put the installation path of your synth, and that you've re-scanned so that Tracktion can see it.
Thanks alot!
