Anyone else here pick it up? I got mine today from good ol' Amazon.com. I can't wait to put it in the car on the way home from work.
It was worth the 20 bucks for the b-side, 'Grief Came Riding' IMO.

I trust you mean the Bad Seeds as in Nick Cave?
Have to look into that.
IMHO, Nick Cave is everything that Jim Morrison tried to be (and more) and the Bad Seeds are an infinitely better (and more interesting) band.
"The Good Son" is my favorite, but does it get better than "The Mercy Seat"?

And the mercy seat is waiting
And I think my head is burning
And in a way I'm yearning
To be done with all this measuring of proof.
A life for a life
And a truth for a truth
And anyway there was no proof
But I'm not afraid to tell a lie.

um....MickGael wrote:"The Good Son" is my favorite, but does it get better than "The Mercy Seat"?
no.
This new comp will have the acoustic tracks that were originally only on a limited free cd that came with 'the good son'; includes an absolutley stunning version of 'mercy seat', so stripped down and raw, so much more powerful (imho...) than the studio version.
waiting for my copy to wing it's way to me from Hong Kong (CDWow.com)

Is there any other?
On a side note, have either of you invested in his poetry or his novel, The Ass Saw the Angel? I highly recommend the novel. The poetry is great, but mostly lyrics to his songs.

Thanks for the details, Gary! Might not be able to resist this one.Joseph Burrell wrote:Is there any other? On a side note, have either of you invested in his poetry or his novel, The Ass Saw the Angel? I highly recommend the novel. The poetry is great, but mostly lyrics to his songs.
As for the novel, I remember when it came out but I never got around to reading it...
Brilliant lyrics, though...
Btw, how is "Abattoir Blues / Lyre of Orpheus"? Have not heard it yet....

Um, bloody brilliant. The title track, The Lyre of Orpheus is Cave at his finest IMO. I think I'll pop it in tonight. For a double album I think he did a great job. The album was very consistent throughout. It shared more with Nocturama in more places than say, The Boatman's Call (probably my favorite.) However, I thought it was a splendid sonic journey nonetheless.

Tracks 8-14 of the 3rd CD of the B-Sides collection are the freaking shite.
I'll be singing Little Jane J's Gone for days.
Seriously.
Seriously.

AB/LoO is real good, amoung his best for sure. No Blixa this time though (!) but still darn noisy and edgy in all the right places.
"And the Ass saw the angel" is a good book too, takes his lyrical obsessions from that kind of time and just runs with them; he has the room to really expand on the themes. So if you're easily offended by inbred redneck mentality, biblical imagery taken to extremes, animal cruelty or buggery then it's probably not the book for you.

Very true Gary. The book certainly isn't for the lighthearted among you. I would still recommend it, and I can honestly say that I was very surprised that Cave was able to pen such a work of great liturature as he did.
